Touring - Saddles: and the winner is?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I'm sure this has been done, probably better.
Voted for Brooks. Just got a new touring bike with a B17. I had one of those 'nearly perfect out of the box' experiences; the saddle feels much better than any cushioned plastic saddle I have ever had. I forgot to order Proofide with the new saddle (and bike), which is why I have ridden with a completely untreated B17 so far. The saddle is slippery, but that was not a problem once I got the tilt angle just right, so that I don't slide forwards on the saddle and the saddle does not press against my sensitive parts.

I had the same expierence. The Brooks was perfect right out of the box.

Brooks
right on, brudder.
Swapped a 34 year old Brooks on to a brand new bike this last spring
Now have a new-ish B17 on there and the older one will be my SS commuter seat
Cozy over these Wisconsin dairy roads
Brooks B67. Ditto comments to date: most comfy saddle out of box I've ever had.
BTW: don't worry about not-proofiding it. Rivendell even suggests leaving it un-PH'd during break in and I hear a lot of people don't do it. (usual disclaimer about wet weather)

Pro, Pro-select, B17N, Swift and Conquest...............
Other saddles break YOU in........and are as comfy as they're ever going to be, straight out of the box.

I think I own more Brooks saddles than bikes...
Brooks!! That's what i tell all the infidels all the time! Just the other day my GF had a fairly extensive saddle rash (not too sexy but hey) from her plastic piece of $hit. She had cycled about 40 Clicks on her Racer. Two days ago i cycled 50 clicks... on my Twenty 3 Speed Folder!!, but with a B17.. nothing! My behind is presteen and i had no pains whatever. And she is a much more accomplished/hardcore cyclsit than i! Sigh. One day i will convince/break her,.. if her saddle doesn't first that is.
Gimme me Brooks or Gimme Death (by saddle sore)

Brooks..Brooks. My butt must be different, my brooks get broken in 6 months then becomes better with time.

I've been riding Terry saddles for many years, but have a new Brooks in transit right now. I can't wait to put it on my touring bike and go for a ride!

other: specialized body geometry. got it from my LBS for $13, it was a stock take-off. While it's better than my old saddle, it's not good enough to keep me from searching for a new one.
I'll have to do some searches about the brooks and rain.
Well as for the rain, i got this black very sleak and thin yet strong black Seat Cover that goes around the B 17 very well and is unobtrusive. I think is it by Selle Italia and says so (as well as MTB) in small white letters. The B 17 is very comfortable even with the cover. But i go on longer rides i just slip it off to get the full comfort and breathing from the leather (while my butt is on, the rain is no prob.). Plus i grease my seat every now and then. I think you could just grease a Brooks once and then use it in the rain. The net result would be that it would outlast all other saddles by some years instead of lasting for decades...

I'll have to do some searches about the brooks and rain.Unless you live in the Rain Forest, that shouldn't even be a factor. The soaking my saddles regularly receive from my butt sweat is far more damaging than rain, I would imagine.... :)

Hate to break up the "Brooks Fest" but I tried one and hated it. I love my Terry Fly...just took it down the Pacific Coast for 3 weeks and it was a superstar!

Uh thats ok, I never comment on the following:
1. Female anatomy things.
2. Specific choices for above.
3. Products of #1.

Wow, look at these results! Either the touring forum is giving a solid "yes" to Brooks, or the Brooks cult has really turned out the vote. Probably a combination of both. On the road forum, Fizik Arione seems to rule these days. What's a Selle Italia fan to do?

Ah, now that is some kind of image.....
Brooks Champion Flyer worked great out, right out of the box. Nothing sore on me. I use Lexol to keep mine in working order.
I have a B17 and sitting on the saddle is just fine but I have had to take it off and go back to a Specialized Arias 143 on my custom Co-motion Nor'wester but....... I had to take off the Brooks becasuse of pain in my hands, neck, and shoulders. I don't like the Specialized but the other pain has gone away. The difference in the fit seems to be the rails on the Brooks are not as long as the Specialized. I have measured from my stembolt to the rear of the Specialized at 28 3/8 inches but the Brooks maximum allowable is only 27 5/8 inches. I would really like to use the B17 but I have not been able to keep it on....anybody out there have any ideas or adjustments I can make. Thanks

Aren't there seatposts that have more set-back?
or go to a shorter stem length?
