EmMildew, we'll figure out something about the 23rd. may have a spare if you are between 5' 5" and 6'. But if you must ride, prob rockcreek via beach drive? or traffic it all the way down rockville pike which turns into wisconson ave and into geotown ( or detour to cap cresent from bethesda......
this saturday i dont get out of work til 6, when do you folks expect to get back to arlington/DC? I can meet you for the last couple miles, or wherever for dinner and a pirate's toast!

The Seagull Century (http://www.seagullcentury.org/) is the world's flattest century. It starts at Salisbury University in Maryland on Saturday, October 8th. I'm pretty sure it's not too late to register, but it costs more if you sign up after August 15th.

crap- people really like that idea?
well, the thing had devolved into the hanes point somewhat century, where you need 33 points to finish, and you get a point for 12oz of milk, 2oz of whisky, or a lap... and you must ride the last three laps.

Any advice on how to get into DC? Should I suck it up and do 20 on the way in? I don't even have a clue on where to begin thinking of a route.
Unfortunately, you can't just run Rockville Pike into Wisc. Things get messy and totally bike-unfriendly at the Beltway crossover.
I've ridden bikes home from Rockville dealers 3 ways:
1) Rockville Pike to Grosvenor(near Metro),then getting on Beach Dr and running it and the Rock Creek
trail to 16th and taking 16th into the city. Don't ask me the exact route 'cause I was lost until I
found 16th. :p
2) Rockville Pike to Grosvenor Metro, hopping the Metro to Medical Center, then taking Wisc south.
3) Rockville Pike to Grosvenor,Grosvenor to Beach,Beach to Cedar,Cedar back to Wisc.
Basically, once you get across the Beltway things are easy going. Here's a Google Maps link to the Rockville Pike/Wisc/Beltway area:
http://maps.google.com/maps?q=washington+dc&ll=39.019884,-77.104583&spn=0.015616,0.029069&hl=en
I'd suggest just messing around with this to find a route from your home,in. You can zoom in and out and drag it around until you find a way that works. Worst case scenario, you could always get a Pirate's cell # and yell for help.

SF- the burrito capitol in my mind-
undisputed! but La Victoria in San Jose gets honorable Bay Area mention.
I have other excuses... but am reconsidering. i will be somewhat near the WOD, near EFC metro, in the afterrnoon so maybe I'll do some recon and catchup to you all. Is westward WOD still the route? or am i confused.

Thanks for the help, you guys. I hate that I can't take my bike on the metro during certain hours. Stupid rules.

(by bike) cross key bridge and take a right on wilson. up the hill two miles.
clarendon, dc, shirlington, wherever; someone pick somewhere to meet
although I won't make the Saturday ride. i feel that i ought to comment on this. the pirate hold is traditionally at sherwood forrest. this is from where our pillaging proceeds. HOWEVER, due to the influx of virginia based riders I see no reason why a meeting spot can be arranged in arlington somewhere. like the stone park @ rosslyn metro. clarendon metro has a park too but its a little farther. and i'm affraid shirlington is right out. seriously. And this comes from a guy who lives less than a mile from shirlington!!
DC street pirates rule the streets in DC.
for real, we need to come correct!
In other news. ITS HOT AS A DEVILS ASS OUT THERE today.

how about we meet at clarendon metro at 6pm? it just makes sense, since we're coming off the W&OD and most DC spots will be the usual saturday-night-mess.
and yeah, dc, blah blah blah. we all know how i hate bridges. but this ain't no pillaging run. this is just dinner and drinks after a long ride. beside, i think we need to be open to folks planning whatever they want to plan-- this ain't no hierarchy!

09-16-05, 01:08 PM
SO who is riding? so far it appears like Chimbly and me at Sherwood and then pickup WU4me and EBK on the WOD (how about the junction btw WOD, 4 Mile run & Kustis?) . Just? Network? Guess we'll see everyone else post ride in Clarendon. EmmW, if you want to barrow a bike (if it is easier) , let me know.
I agree with tink, the pirates den in virginia should be around Rosslyn, there are multiple bike trails, streets, highways that lead directly to it and two metro lines, though it does lack any good pirate bars, i can only really think of two ive been to; but its convenient enough to start there for city-state rides or nova pillages. thats not to say we cant meet at another location in VA if its more convenient for the occasion, like tomorrow.
see ya guys tomorrow evening

Hey, DC people. Time's Up is coming to town on sept. 23rd and 24th. It look like it's gonna be about 15 of us on bikes. We are trying to organize a CM on friday at 6pm, Dupont Circle. Then we are gonna be doing bike comm support for many of the protests the next day.
There are about 6 of us who ride fixed, and would love to meet up.
