I averaged about 7800 miles a year for the past 6 years. I put it in my Palm Pilot after each ride, which I carry with me loaded with some local maps.

jabike do you have a specific program you use for recording miles rode in your Palm? I have been looking for a specific program for my Palm to do just that. The maps is a great idea too. I am a huge Palm guy and always look for ways that I can use my Palm in every aspect of my life.

I have an old CatEye Astrale.... I reset it June 22nd 2005... I am up to 900 miles since then

if you can put excel files in your palm that is what I use on my computer, with a gps
you can make your own maps some transfer to palms (palm pilot is next on the list)

I have Documents to go and have thought about creating a spreadsheet with Excel. I was just looking for some type of freeware program that someone may have created for the palm. The GPS idea is a good idea and not something I had thought of.

This is my first year cycling in several years. Started commuting in June. So far 750 commuting, 1350 total.

My method of keeping track of miles is very complicated. When I get in from a ride I write the number of miles I rode on the calendar.

Hey, jcring, a friend of mine wrote something in about five minutes which gives me columns on my palm for date/time miles and comments that interfaces with an excel database.

I only started logging miles (well, kilometers, actually) this year. It's been abou 1700 mi since April. I had no commuting to do during the summer but the school is starting in less than a week for me, so.... :)

I tried keeping track but my crappy and cheap computer resets at every jump/crash. (I do mostly mountain biking, but I am looking at a Specialized Tricross).

I use www.activebody.org. It's free and easy. It is also good for looking at monthly totals from previous years.

On January 1st, before I went out for my ride, I wrote down the number of miles on my bike computers. The computer on my commute bike (I'm only an occasional commuter) is no longer recording my miles and there's no bike computer on the tandem.

I use two "systems" - online I use bikejournal.com (free) and offline I use Shasta Software's Cyclistats. Cyclistats is more data-manipulative, and you can track weight, BP, cadence vs, profile, etc. Bikejournal.com is fun because you're ranked with about 10,000 other cyclists around the world. It definitely creates competitive motivation to move up the ranks, especially if you're mostly a solo cyclist like me.

I generally do 3000 to 4000 miles yearly but Last year had some health issues & was off the bike a few months. This year I set a conservative goal of 2000 miles & hit that on August 30th. I also began logging miles at bikejournal.com this January. Its a free & easy way to keep a log. Don

I am at close to 4500 or so. Should hit about 5500 miles for the year. Damn cold weather is coming.:(

Bikejournal.com is exactly the type of program I have been looking for. Thank you for the tip.

Just over 1,300 since May on my Roadbike computer. No commuting. Just highway riding. I've probably have about 300 on my general purpose bike.

The only "negative" about bikejournal.com is feeling inadequate--no, insignificant--in comparison to the mileages of the top-listed riders there: as of this morning (9/12), #1 has 21,026 miles logged for the year, and #2 has 19,562. I have a mere 3,700--what those guys must do in a single week--and hope to hit 5,000, after doing 4,164 last year.

Does anyone call BS on some of those top riders? The #1 rider is supposedly averaging 82.5 miles per day, every day, since the beginning of the year. I find that very hard to believe.

I can't count that high, cyclocomputers are too figity for me, I've ridden 2,500 miles this year easy if I count up all the weekend and 5 day tours i've taken so far. But, who's counting?

Hasn't been a year yet. 800 miles. Don't trust cyclometer after accidently resetting data, luckily it was after had already copied data. Usually only ride during short commute.

Take heart. They might be fudging the numbers, but even if they are not, obviously all they do is spend time on their bikes and on BJ.com. A rich, varied life that does not make!

What do miles matter anyway? I think we should count hours. I spend about 2 hours every day on a bike. The miles add up a lot faster on the road bike than the mountain bikes. I got a roadbike at the end of April. I am approaching 3000 miles on it and i really don't ride it that much. I ride my mountain bikes a lot more!

I use www.cyclogs.co.uk . Free, well designed site and not so big as to make one feel "insignificant". I find it to be an indispensible help to be able to chart my rides and evaluate them over time. It boggles the mind why anyone would inflate their own miles. How is that going to help your training?

I know the gentleman who's ranked #4 on bikejournal. I know he's riding the miles - the others in his riding clubs attest to that.

At 1162 so far for the year, but I should be 250 more than that. Rode no where near my target mileage for July and August. Schedule problems and two minor injuries got in the way.

I bought my Hybrid on May 6. There is 510 miles on the cyclo-computer as of Sept. 6. Miles without computer working is only a guess.

I got a computer on July first, and just passed 982 on it. But I didn't have it hooked up for about a week and a half, and rode my MTB for like 3 commutes. With the commutes from when the computer wasn't on, I'm at 1005 on ActiveBody.org... 22nd for miles against the BikeForums team there :D Unfortunatly, 87th in the fall challenge, and 73rd for the summer :(

I've ridden about 800 miles as of a couple of weeks ago. I won't be able to ride again until probably the middle of Oct. My house is in desparate need of painting and it's a 4 step process. Ugh! I also record on bikejournal.com and also in a two year pocket calendar, so I don't have to go online to find info.

I have 3600 so far, should finish with 5000 for the year. I also do bikejournal.com.
