From PBS: http://www.pbs.org/now/
The show talked about hurricane victims in Mississippi using bicycles to scavenge food, water, and ice. Cars are demolished. Gas supplies are way down. They need bicycles. Does anyone know which national organization has taken any action to help?
This is what I have found so far:
National Organizations:

League Extends Sympathy, Support to Hurricane Victims (9.1.05)
The League of American Bicyclists is reaching out to cycling clubs and members in the Southern U.S. recently hit by a deadly hurricane. Until they let us know the best way for us to help them, we encourage everyone to give to the American Red Cross by clicking here or calling 800-435-7669.

* In an effort to help provide transportation to the victims of Hurricane Katrina, Gainesville’s First Assembly of God Church will be collecting new and used 26” wheeled bicycles. On the first weekend of October, the bicycles will be taken to Alabama’s Gulf Coast and distributed to people in need there. You can help by donating any bikes or bike parts needed to refurbish the used bikes. For more information, please call Gary at 258-3353.

The Minnesota Bicycle and Pedestrian Alliance has been approached by numerous aid organizations seeking bikes for flood/hurricane survivors. Our goal is to get at least 25 bikes repaired during this event. We are also seeking cash donations to help outfit the bikes with new racks, lights, and other accessories. Many of the refugees are low income and can not afford cars. Help them get back on their feet with a bike!
