Wow! You have XT top mounts! I only have DX top mounts on my Stumpjumper that I bought at Gregg's Greenlake back in 1992. They are still going strong. They are the only stock part on the bike other than the seatpost and front DX derailleur. I even broke the frame and Specialized gave me a new one.
I LOVE them... of course, I've never known anything else.

You got a spare set? I'll take 'em.

That's all I got. My friend found a pair of XC Pro top mounts and loves them. Maybe see if you can find some of those instead? Probably won't be much easier.

Yeah the guy I got them from was gonna throw them away. My buddy who convinced me to go with them runs Suntour XC pro mated to XT front n rear :D . Mind you I built this Adroit Klein (pre Trek buyout) in 98!!! After trashin rapid fires and grip crap I never looked back.......

good to know that I am not the only semi retro geek.

I've been rocking the XC Pro 8spd for years on my commuter and before that on a mtn. bike. The rear der is some POS from the 80's and the cogs are XT 8spd. As long as the cable tension is good, I never miss a shift.

Man...pics of some of these things would be cool! I haven't even heard of some of the stuff mentioned here, let alone seen it.

Wow, an eight speed. My top mounts are 7 speed but I think they can push eight.
Rer. der. is an old XTR from about 10 years ago coupled with XTR V-brakes.
I just keep riding and it just keeps working.
However, there are many "other problems" with the bike so it may be time to finally ditch the whole thing and build a new bike.
