I did 100 miles. It took me all day. The last 25 miles were killers. +100 deg and into the wind, and no one to draft.
At mile 78. There is "GOOD LUCK" painted on the road. I thought that was so nice. As in "way to go, you are almost there..." No it is "Good Luck You don't know what you are getting yourself into".

Way to go Scubagirl!
A century is a great achievement. Now, shorter distances will seem... well... shorteer...
Scubagirl, Congratulations!
As to the temps, I read it was 107 at the worst of the
day, I saw 104 on a bank as I was driving outta Wichita
Falls.

Congrats, scubagirl! I know how wonderful it is to complete your first century! And, shoot, don't worry about taking all day...in the long run, you will remember you did a century, not you rode for so many hours! Keep up the fine work...it just keeps getting better!!

I'm not only impressed by the fact you finished your century. I'm totally impressed by the fqact your spent the next 4 hours walking around in that brutal heat looking for your dog.
We did the 50 and crashed and burned for the 2 hour nap afterwards.

Scubagirl.. That is great. Especially in the heat. Heat effects me more than cold- as a deterent to getting in my ride. And you did it in the heat. Congrats..
September- that is the hottest month here too. I can get out of if is below - oh, 97 degrees. Worries me- stops me from doing my work commute once a week..
you have done a century- welcome to the ranks of serious riders...
Congrats Scubagirl!!!
Mind if I ask you how you trained for it? I will attempt the 75mile ride next weekend, but don't think I'm ready for a century yet.
But 100 miles in 100+ degrees is something to brag about!
I swear I have no idea how any of you finished that ride! Totally mazzo! Way to go Scubagirl!
I actually felt the same way recently when I finally tackled a local hill, sort of infamous among local cyclists. NO way would I have been able to to it early in the season, but I've been practicing and waiting until I thought I had a chance in hell of at least making it part of the way up. I finally tried it a couple of weeks ago, on a day when it wasn't too hot and I made it. I would have made it all the way in one shot but my shoe slipped out of my pedal and I had to wait for a traffic light- which was fine with me because I was starting to feel like I was barfing up a lung. But it wasn't as horrible as I thought it would be. Its reputation precedes it, like Mont Ventoux or the Arenberg forest. But felt like I had to brag, only there really wasn't anywhere to brag, since everyone else has done that hill a million times, so big deal! But I felt pretty good anyways (once I recovered, LOL).

Sort of related to Scubagirl's accomplishment. This morining it was mid 90's here. I don't like that. So way to keep you committed to your ritual ride... Get dressed for the ride as soon as you get up and before you have coffee. no way, I am dressed to get on the bike and not actually do it... Excussess like it is too hot don't work. you are committed. No going to waste a clean pair of cycling clothes.. The wind of the ride makes the heat normally acceptable..
You can brag as much as you like, you're entitled to. Well done Scubagirl. A great acheivement. Take care now.

They give out a small pin at the finish line. Its really neat
when they do, although mine was almost too heavy to
carry (and I only did the 100k )

Hey Scubagirl. Oceanrider here. We must be related with those names, right? Proud to call you a sista. Brag away, brag all day. You've just completed the cyclist's equivalent of a marathon. How'd ya do it in that heat? My gawd that's just an amazing accomplishment.
Thanks Unca! I don't know if it was really a big deal. Everyone does that hill, but it was a first for me and a big deal to me.
As for the HHH, I've been telling my friends about it and they're impressed!

Way to go Scubagirl. I am so proud of you. I know exactly what you went thru.
The drive took us longer than expected and I was not able to get to the meeing point at 6pm to meet you guys\gals. We arrived around 7pm. I drove the whole 10hrs, and we ate and I wanted to really look around at the Bike show. My buddies were laid out on the floor begging me to leave. I did make a quick run.
I totally agree with you about the ride. First 80m were quite easy then someone turned on the heat. We passed one bank with 109 on the marque. When we stopped I would really overheat. I had a flat at 99.2 miles. Just about did me in. My riding buddy who finished really strong, grabbed my wheel and changed it in about 5min. So I made it on for the next 3 miles. Yeah ended with 103. I always battle cramps with the hot rides and they started just at the end. But after I finished, I couldn't move without something cramping. I was pretty miserable for about an hour. Just kept shoving food and drink in. And finally got better. We did another Century this past weekend, and it was much easier with the temps just under 90 degrees.
But again. Congrats. you picked a tough one for your first. The rest will be easy.
Mike
Oh, I did wear the Forum jersey. :D
