View Full Version : What to do with old saddle?

Well, I shouldn't say "old". I just bought a new Brooks saddle and took the stock Bontrager CRZ+ saddle off. The Bontrager only had 100 miles on it. I'm going to keep it around for now in case the B17 purchase turns out to be a mistake.

Is there a market for saddles like this? What do you do with your saddles when you've replaced them?

Save that saddle for your next bike build project... :)

I know this is a really old post but I've been looking for a crz+. Do you still have it? Would you like to sell it? Or trade for a fizik pave?

Thanks.

Put it on the end table and leave it there a few months.

I keep them around to give to friends. What didn't work for me frequently does work for someone else, or at least gets them through until they can afford to get a seat they like better.

Currently I'm actually short a seat for that reason though. I sold my labmate an older Hardrock I found on craigslist to use as a commuter and ended up giving him the seat from my MTB with it since the seat that came on the Hardrock really did not work for him. The MTB seat did not work for me though and I was planning to replace it with a Brooks down the line anyways, now I just have a better reason to.

I have four brooks saddles. I keep the old ones around for when or if i sell a bike. Put the old saddle back on and keep the broken in brooks.

I have a large box under my work bench that contains the failures. I could do yard art with all that I have in there. I've replaced all with Brooks saddles one by one.

I have a junk saddle box ( funny it actually CONTAINS a Brooks b17, among others) I put them on bikes I pull out of the garbage and sell, or trade them. The brooks I will use to up the price on some sucker buying an otherwise average bike.

There are a lot of Mexicans who cannot afford a car but ride old bikes. Some of them have worn down seats. When they get to work, their bikes are parked outside and take a weather beating. Many of them work as busboys, etc. They might need your extra unused seats.

When we were building up my bike, we were at a bike shop when this guy came in to get his bent wheel fixed. As he was going outside I saw that his saddle was torn and he was using a plastic bag so the padding wouldn't get soaked and wet his pants.

We gave him the saddle off of the bike we were building because another BF member donated one to me. He was so happy and very very grateful. :)

Pay it forward. ;)
