I don't know if anybody else has seen this yet but check this out: Biomega Bike (http://store.puma.com/pumaUSStore/product.asp?catalog%5Fname=PumaUS&category%5Fname=Bags&product%5Fid=89000101&productType=Accessories&mainCategory=&siteid=1&source=7203&&cookie%5Ftest=1&cookie%5Ftest=1)

There is a special Flash page that's accessable from www.puma.com too. Here's the jist:

A single-speed, disk-braked, 24" wheeled bike with slicks. The frame is aluminum, and has the slingshot style cable-as-downtube. BMX handlebars "for upright, head-up position for optimal visibility and navigation". BMX cranks as well. The bike also folds, and the cable/downtube acts as a lock. Seat-tube trunk rack is included. Cost: $775 + $40 shipping, all no-name parts.

Altogether, seems like a pretty cool idea, perfect for the urban hipster. The only complaint I have is the cost, which seems a little much. A 24" cruiser with big bars and a better seat would be basically the same thing, only about $400 less and you have to buy a chain.

Thoughts?

I'll stick to my old school bmx or SS mtb. Its only time when someone will offer a bike where the frame tubes doubles as a water bottle. Kind of like the motorcycles frames that hold the oil in the tubing.

I personally built a few of those bikes for puma at the bike shop.

They were ok, the disc brakes were pretty cheap. It looked pretty good, all flat black. They worked ok, definitley not worth the price.

I'm all for people commuting on bikes. I especially advocate fixed gears or single speeds for hassle free commuting within many cities. I'm appalled at the number of people who drive to my campus, 90% of the people who live off campus (almost everyone who isn't a freshman) live within 2-3 miles of their destination. It can be traversed by bike as fast as by car. Anyway- I'm all for something like this... but....

If someone wants to give me $400 I'll build them a commuter bike that will make that thing look like a toy. That said though, I really wish this thing would catch on and become the next fad....

I'd rather just pay the dosh for an original Slingshot. Talk about bike-lust.

I understand marketing and all, but seriously, there's alot of better bikes that can be bought for under 800 shipped. but I guess if it fits my fashion.....

Bike looks pretty slick. I don't know much about 24" cruiser style bikes, but if you were to build one for half the price, fixed of course, how would you do it? Who makes this kinda stuff?

"special features, such as a single speed transmission that does not require shifting and optimizes pedaling"
sounds high tech!

I saw that pic too, and I think they just mirrored that one. All the other photos indicate a regular right-hand drive.

no, they just flipped the picture. i just did it in ms paint. they might have liked the picture, but wanted it angled the other way to flow better with the site. i don't know, but it was a good catch.

how it is on the site:

what it looked like when it was taken (ms paint > image > flip/rotate > flip horizontal):

see, its just like its looking at itself in the mirror:

everything else aside...for those of us that wear adidas... riding that thing would be an epic gear-mixing faux pas...
