I haven't had a cigerette since 7/3/04!!

Lots of you folks encouraged me when I first began the ordeal. So thank you.

Can't believe I forgot about it. Over a year! I would never had thought I could do it. Wow!
The Biking! That made a big difference. Went riding instead of sitting around and feeling sorry for myself.
My gut got a tad larger but my butt sure looks good in those riding shorts now. BEEFY!

So Up your's Phillip Morris! Go to HELL! HA HA HA HA

Well good for you! Whatever you do, don't give in to stress or any lingering cravings that might creep up on you. Just keep doing what you are doing, and you'll be doing it better! Congrats!

Congrats. Besides riding, did you do anything else to help quit? I'm trying to get my lovely wife to quit but she won't. :mad:

I've been clean (smokeless tobacco) for going on a year an a half. It feels good to have that monkey off my back.

Congrats

I haven't even had a social smoke since I started riding. I like this feeling. :)

nice one brutha! :)
You deserve to treat yourself to something special now, like a nice wheelset or something. It helps to have goals to look foward to, at 1 month, then three months, and so on, and at each milestone reward yourself in progressively larger rewards. At the end of the year you will probably have saved enough money by not smoking to get a very nice bike.

Cheers!
I think it's about 7 months for me, don't miss it a bit.
And I'm a better climber than ever!
It's amazing how your lungs recoup.

Congrats! As I always say, it's a filthy, nasty habit, and to kick it takes a lot of willpower. So :beer:

Commit Lozenges. For about a month...and again awhile later during a stressful time. For about a week.

Way to go dude! Stop and smell the flowers (or whatever) - now that you can. Beware the lozenges though, same sh*t, different package.

My last nicotine was a $10 macanudo on the front steps of my house - November 7th, '04 - then I quit cold turkey. Never want to do that again - just totally sick for about a week. I can't believe I ever thought that sh*t was cool...what a loser...

Not to worry dcbikeguy. Been "Nicotine" free for a long long time. But don't forget smokers are hooked on a lot more then just nicotine. Cigarettes were/are a important part of our lives. Remember "packing" a new pack? Smoke rings? THe after dinner smoke? It was all part of the daily program. The lozenges helped me cope with the "void' I missed while quitting in the beginning. And....being able to notice the many advantages that being "smoke free" was having on my body was a big help. I highly recommend a nicotine subsitute at the start of a fresh Quit. If it worked for me......It will work for anyone. And my wife is a smoker. (She doesn't like the way they taste. Like the way she does after she has a smoke and kisses me. YUCK!)

I remember all that stuff only to well. I looooved it. Whatever it takes to quit is the right thing - just stop that nasty crap, right? With respect though - the best way for me was cold turkey. I can't "pack a new pack", or blow smoke rings with lozenges. To fill the void I ate more, exercised like crazy, chewed gum and ate sunflower seeds...oh yeah, and I j*rked off a couple times a day (single guy - I know, TMI, but what can I say, it helped!).

I quit in 1987. Smokeless for 18 years now. Would you believe it - I still dream about it - that I'm busy smoking and mentally kick myself? :p

That first cigarette in the morning to get you going and the one to relax after work. Nobody tells you what an incredible drug it is.

Smoke free since 11/16/94*, but who's counting?

*Ok, I had a nice cuban cigar in Canada back in '98.

What i dont understand is why smokers quit after smoking for so many years... Have'nt the damage already been done(black lungs). It's not like your lungs will repair itself. Or will it?????
Anyone care to educate me?

At 20 minutes after quitting:

* blood pressure decreases
* pulse rate drops
* body temperature of hands and feet increases.

At 8 hours:

* carbon monoxide level in blood drops to normal
* oxygen level in blood increases to normal

At 24 hours:

* chance of a heart attack decreases

At 48 hours:

* nerve endings start regrowing
* ability to smell and taste improve

At 2 weeks to 3 months:

* circulation improves
* walking becomes easier
* lung function increases

At 1 Year smoke free:

* excess risk of coronary heart disease is decreased to half that of a smoker

At 5 years:

* from 5 to 15 years after quitting, stroke risk is reduced to that of people who have never smoked.

At 10 years:

* risk of lung cancer drops to as little as one-half that of continuing smokers
* risk of cancer of the mouth, throat, esophagus, bladder, kidney, and pancreas decreases
* risk of ulcer decreases

At 15 years:

* risk of coronary heart disease is now similar to that of people who have never smoked
* risk of death returns to nearly the level of people who have never smoked

Your lungs can repair themselves from a cetian point. You taste things much better, smell things much better, breathe better, more energy, and have more money each week too! I

I quit 24 years ago. At the above rate, if I would have quite 20 years sooner I'd live forever!

I feel better for it. My chances of haveing a heart attack are cut in half within 24 hours after having my last cigarette. Yeah. Im sure I damaged my lungs by smoking. But I feel better knowing that I'm not hurting them anymore. Its never to late to quit smoking according to the American Lung Association.
you sound like some of my smoking pals at work when I first announced that I kicked the habit and told them I'll be taking my breaks inside from now on. Know what I mean?
