Training & Nutrition - 20 miles a day 52 weeks a year...

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Hello, my name is carless I'm a cyclaholic (mmurmurrr, "Hello", mmmurmurr)
I ride 20 miles a day yearly, exclusive of errands, but including commutes to work. Is this desireable for training? On days I'm a little slow I switch to a bike with gears. I'm not training for an event, I'm the original ****- I'm an addict. What are the drawbacks to my knees, should I get a HR monitor or just keep riding oblivous to any concern. Am I setting myself up for a long old age?
I am open to suggestions, comments or things that bounce around in your head. (last time I said that I was soon learning "Time Warp" on stage).
As long as you don't have specific goals such as losing weight or riding across to the North Pole you don't have to do anything different. Don't get caught up with the numbers game and what other people think. You have a good life.

Just keep on doing what your doing. Unless you have got your heart going flat out and your worried about it there's no need for a heart rate monitor. Consuming traditional foods such as bone stocks, fresh vegetables and traditional animal fats such as butter will look after your bones. Stay away from man made fat's and soy and you should stay healthy. There, that's my heresy for today. See http://www.westonaprice.org if you want to find out more.

I've kinda reached the point where I'll read what Anthony says and just do the opposite. Works pretty well :D

Yeah yeah yeah!
Do what you want but don't complain later that no one told you when current dogma falls in a heap.

Stay away from beans? Weird...
I'm gonna die, all I eat is soy! OMFG hellp AnthonyG - get me to Whataburger stat so I can live. Jeez, talking about dogma.
[walks off laughing at the idea of eating fat to be 'healthy' as he remembers that 450 lb. person eating that double-double from In-n-Out back in the day]

I've started another thread to handle these sort of questions rather than highjacking the origional posters thread.
