I just had to replace pads after a near-vertical re-entry burned the front ones right off. Lousy gravity. Anyway.

You have to straighten the end of the cotter pin to slide it out, then undo those allen bolts to take the side of the assembly off. It's a pretty simple mechanism once you're inside. It's a good idea to slack off the pad adjustment before replacing the pads. Then you can just tighten the adjustment up when the new pads are in.

Whatever you do, don't touch the faces of the pads with your fingers. Skin contaminates them, apparently. Handle them by the little pan-handles.

No. The oils from your skin can cntaminate them.

Yes. The oils from your skin can contaminate them. So you shouldn't touch them.
