Get waterproof socks! They are well worth the £30! Wear some wool socks under that! its easy to forget about your feet, but it is one of the worst affected body parts! I took stuff seriously since last winter on a very memorable day! It was sub zero outside, wet and the puddles of mud where freezing over the surface. I was in full water proofs, that is except for my feet, i had water proof socks, i didnt wear them, i didnt even wear my over shoes! As i went on my 3 hour cycle, water got in my shoe, as i went over puddles and borke the ice, more water, at near freezing point got in to my shoes, it was a very painfull experince that ended up with mild frost-bite! my feet went dark purple and lost feeling in them completly, like a block of wood!

So remember to wear water proof socks!

I tried waterproof sock last winter and didn't think they were very water proof. I found booties/overshoes to be much more effective. Does anyone have experience with a good pair of waterproof socks?

I have a good experince with them! Mine are 'porelle dry' and they are completly waterproof, i dont even wear over shoes anymore, although you need wool socks under the waterproof socks because although it is easy to get fooled in to thinking the waterproof socks are warm, due ot there thickness, they are really not all that warm and only do a good job when they are combined with warm socks!

As for you thinking they are not waterproof, could that not be sweat?

Its possible but I'm pretty sure they leaked. I hit a puddle and suddenly my feet were cold and wet, though not as cold and wet if I didn't have the socks. Ofcourse I bought an off brand sock from a discount online shop. My overshoes worked better at keeping the water out and allow the use of thicker socks. With my large feet even the largest waterproof socks only allow room for a thin layer beneath.
Maybe I'll try a better sock this winter.
