Bicycle Mechanics - freecoaster hubs

so i got a bike with a freecoaster rear hub(it allows the wheel to go backwards without the pedals moving) and it takes a quarter turn of my pedals before the chain engages. is there a way to adjust this? i've busted my knees a whole lot of times on my handlebars.

Obvious answer, get a new rear wheel. :)

What type of hub is it? Freewheel, freehub, internal geared? More details would be useful.

thats typical of a freecoaster, some high end feecoasters can be adjusted but chances are since this came stock on your bike that its not adjustable. I suggest getting a non-freecoaster wheel.

It's been a long time since I heard the word "freecoaster" but the word "ACS freecoaster" comes to mind. ACS meaning "American Cycle Systems" . And if that's what you are talking about, then the answer is no. You cannot adjust this .

I think it was the "driver" portion that worked on Bendix 70 and/or76 hubs made in mexico that were common on Schwinn Stingrays (USA built).

If you had a coaster brake bike and you wanted to make it into a freewheeling bike, you could buy this ACS freecoaster driver and put in the place of the Bendix piece and your bike would freewheel instead of stopping when you pedaled backwards.

Oh, so "Freecoaster" was a type of hub. Learned something new.

I missed the Stingray period. I was too old to bother with bikes when they came out and got into cycling with a real road bike in the mid-80's as an adult so I missed the arcana of 60's,70's and 80's kids bikes.

oh well, thanks for the help. i went to work an overhauled the hub, and it is pretty similiar to a coaster brake. minus the whole braking thing.
