Hello, I'm new here, and was hoping that one of you (or more) could perhaps help steer me in the right direction. I'm having some problems with my gear shift. While cruising in gear (It doesn't matter which gear) every eight or ten turns of the pedal, or so, it feels as though the chain slips, and for an instant, the pedal falls through abit, without propelling my bike any further. When I flipped my bike, and spun the pedals, I noticed that every time the slip occured, my rear derailer would lurch back abit, and then snap back into place. Does anybody have any ideas as to what's afflicting my Huffy, and if so, perhaps any possible solutions to my problem? Any response is appreciated. Thanks for your time.

Problem - It's a Huffy
Solution - 16 ound sledge hammer and a trip to the LBS, not Wal-mart.

Honestly, it is a cheap bike which by default leads you to believe that you have cheap components including your derailer. You could go through the trouble of upgrading, but it would not be worth it. Either live with the problem or get a new bike. Not trying to pick on you or your bike but that is one of the many, many reasons most people here do not by bikes anywhere but from a LBS (Local Bike Shop), which does not include any X-mart, Sears, REI, Dave's Sporting goods, etc... Probably not what you want to hear... :(

This will happen if your rear cogs are starting to wear and need to be replaced. Although if that's the problem, it will typically only happen under heavy loads, also it will typically happen only in one or two of the cogs, most likely the ones you use most often; so it does seem liekely that something is just totally borked back there.

Is it an X-mart bike? If so, they tend to die rather quickly...

I took your advice. Though i did not take to my Huffy with a sledge Hammer, I took to my LBS and made off with Kona Kikipu.

And that's how Wallmart sells them.
