Introductions - Hi from India

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I dont think there are many members from India here. Biking sadly isnt exactly the popular sport, recreation and trasport medium over here :( which makes it difficult for me!
This place seems really nice and informative :)
I hope to make friends here :) ..
I have been cycling for quite some years now. First bike when I was 2 or 3! I'm now 18 :)
But I've become deeply interseted in biking only recently. I owned a racer/road bike (single speed :p ) a yr back. Now upgraded to a 18sp, ful sus MTB. I bought this because the roads in the city are very bad! I dont to hardcore MTB, just use it for transport and sometimes rec. Is it a good choice?
I'll be psoting pics of my bike later...
Ayush.

What part of India - its a big place. My parents were married in Poona (1927) and spent some time in Bombay. They were with the British army.
I have read stories of unskilled truck drivers in India, so it may be wise to ride with a mirror attached to your helmet or glasses to watch out for them. Best luck and have fun.
Thanks addhlis and andrews :)
@andrew I'm from Kolkata.. its interseting to note that your paents were with the army :)
The thing is as biking aint popular here, we just dont get decent stuff for bikes here :( Some ppl even dont know what is a bike helmet! a bike helmet is practically unknown! and we have some jerks here who wont miss an opportunity to tease you about a saftey equipment which they've never seen! :o SO i just donbt wear the helmet.. as for mirrors I wish I could find some good ones here. What kind are good for MTBs?
@aadhlis ur profile shows ur from CA :-?

Welcome Ayush! :)
I can't give personal ties to India like the others can other than when I was in school I had tons of friends from India. :)
If the roads are pretty bad like you suggest, then I think your decision to get the full sus. mt. bike was a good decision.
Thanks king o termites :)

Ayush - if you search on this forum for mirrors you will find lots of recommendations. I use the Third Eye mirror that mounts on my glasses. Take-a-Look is a similar one made of wire rather than plastic so is probably more robust but may vibrate. These are both available on-line.
Hi andrew...
thanks...even i wear glasses. Are these comfortable?

Another opinion....when I got my first "real" bike a year and a half ago, I got a mirror that attaches to glasses and found it to be no good. It (or the glasses) would constantly shift enough that I couldn't see behind me well and I would find that I was (unsafely) moving my head all over to see behind me and while doing that I was not looking in FRONT of me.
I don't use a mirror now, but if I did, I would probably get a bike mounted one.

The mirror mounts on the arm of the glasses and is in the edge of my field of view a few cm forward of the glasses. I ha no problem like KingTermite with my first one, but it broke and I replaced it. The pivot of the second was not so firm so the mirror shifted position whenever I hit a pothole. I adjusted the mirror to the right position and put a dab of glue on the pivot at the point where it clips onto the glasses - no problem now. There is also a pivot between the end of the stick and the mirror so I am still able to adjust the direction it points. Do a search for both types of mirrors.
Thanks andrew and termite ..now I guess I shouldnt go off topic and take all my newbie questions to the appropriate froums.. :)
