hey, i'm interested in elevating a beater to a stunner with a slick paint job. what are the options in philly? anyone had anything like this done? of course, i'm looking to do it as cheap as possible, while still having it look pro.

what about a fram thats kind of rusty?
do you strip the original paint?
grind off the rust?
or are you just looking to paint over preexisting coats?

Rust is no problem. I sandblast all paint, rust, etc off of every
bike before painting.

let me know if you have any more questions,

i would only do a rattle can job if your present paint is blemish free, other wise it needs to be sand blasted and whatnot

You might want to consider 2 layer powdercoat - a colour of your choice and the clear coat on top. I did this when I realised that chroming the lugs of my internet trift store find is too cumbersome. It adds nice depth to the colour as well:

I had to do polishing and masking the lugs myself. The price (inclusive of chemically stripping old paint, and powdercoating the track fork fitting this frame) was $32, I do not think you cna get that sort of price in Philly, though.

santana doesnt do that greast of a job. yes he sandblasts and all that jazz, but if you know anything about painting, then you know what orange-peel is. well most of his frames are orange peely when he is done.... and he is an ******* who tried to f*ck my gf.

i would never have a bicycle frame actually sandblasted. it's entirely too abrasive. i would get it beadblasted.

well, if i did a rattle can job, i'd strip it first.
i did some googling on powder coating in philadelphia and got nothing. every link went to a corporate headquarters. i know there's gotta be a ghetto lowrider spot in the hood somewhere that powder coats for a reasonable price... maybe i'll check the phone book.

What do you mean by orange-peel? I saw the paint job he did to one of my friends' bikes, and it looks pretty damn good.

Santana here to clarify a few little things:
Sure I'll be the first to admit my paint's not completely perfect, after all I'm not a professional bike painter (hey, i don't even have a shop to work out of). I'm an 'up and coming' bike artist. And I'm getting way better with every single paint job i do. I can still make your bike as crazy and Ill as you want it to be. Just about any design, color combo, decal....etc. with very few limitations.
I know my bike is an extension of me and anything I put on it is like a tatoo so i always try to do my best.

AS FOR THE OTHER THING... "F*ck my GF"

-As I recall you were there that night. Are you blind? I'm not gonna get into too many details, but let me say:
1. I never invited her over
2. I never asked her to c*ckBlock me with the hott girl i was trying to kick it too that was sitting outside 2 stoops down.
3. I never invited her to stay after you left
4. I never asked her to sneek in my room as I was going to sleep
-that's pretty much it.

Listen man, I'm not trying to start and arguement or anything. I just thought you should really know how it went down. If it wasn't me, it would have been somebody else, cause she wasn't happy.

I do sincerly hope you guys work things out and are really happpy. You're both kool cats. That's it.
If you'd like to talk feel free to email me santana911@gmail.com. That way we won't have to air our dirty laundry all over the interWeb. If you want I'll even erase this thread.

till then....

I agree. Glass bead blasting is where it's at. That's all I use on steel. For aluminum, go for something a little softer.

OUCH!

BTW, Santana, how much are you charging? I may have a frame or 2 that I'd like done. I'm in the Poconos, so a drive down to Philly won't be too bad.

Powder coat or Paint in Phillie,

You may need to look outside the city limits and they will not be bike specific. There are a few small industrial shops in Chester that powder coat, but I can't remember exactly. There are many small shops on the NJ side that can do the job and they may be too laid back to have a web site. Look in the yellow pages in Phillie and NJ. One good place to ask are welding shops, iron gates, outdoor furniture...etc. They generally will know someone who can powder coat and bead blast. In the small jobber world, its almost all by word of mouth. Let us know what you find, i will need a paint job soon too. Cheers!
