im not new im just stupid, what is a bottom bracket? i have a hard tail, does my bike have one?

A bottom bracket is where the cranks attach to. The cranks are the arms that have the pedals attached......it dosent matter what kind of bike either.

Most are square-taper. Some of the newer ones are ISIS splined. Here's a link to pics of BB's.

The days of the old bb's where you had to grease and pack in the ball bearings are thankfully long over.

Now, all bb's I've looked at are sealed and cheap enough to throw away and replace with a new one.
