BMX - coaster brake -> freewheel

Ok guys so I posted this on the bikepirates livejournal community and haven't gotten an answer yet. I have an old Schwinn Scrambler that I like to play around on and I was wondering is it possible to thread the sprocket off an old coaster brake bmx hub and thread a standard freewheel on in it's place? thanks.

damn, I could of sworn it was but yeah it looks like it just has that little snap ring thing. I think I confused it with an old internal gear hub I had.

The problem is that the drive (and braking) mechanism is contained inside the hub, removing the cog won't change that even if you *could* thread a freewheel on there. Same story with your old internal gear hub (which isn't likely to be freewheel threaded either).

if you have a scramble you should go to vintagebmx.com and sell it to those old guys.

BMXTRIX would probably know more than I about converting coaster brake hubs into freecoasters since I didn't start riding flat until after the advent of readily available Nankai hubs, but converting an old Suntour used to be the only way to really do it. Theoretically all you have to do is pop the hub open and remove the brake shoes.

eh I don't plan on getting into BMX the bike is just a lot of fun to ride. plus I got it for $4 in good condition from a thrift store

well, shwinn hasn't made the Scrambler for over 25 years or so. if it has coaster brake it may be a stock bike. it may be work ALOT more the 4 bucks.

the old guys over at vintagebmx.com are a good place to go to find out something about it. it may be worth looking into....

It would probably be simpler to just get a cheap rear wheel if you are just messing around on it.
