Bokkie
08-28-02, 08:41 AM
I've noticed some unusual names in the forums.

Mine: Bokkie.

South Africa's national animal is the spingbok - at least in rugby it is. It also appeared on the old state heraldry/coat of arms. Bokkie would (very loosely) be a baby springbok. It's also used in a diminutive context of anyone originating from the country.

What's yours?

nebill
08-28-02, 08:45 AM
NE is the postal code for Nebraska, and Bill is, well, me! Hence, nebill. Nothing to this stuff, but I can't wait to read some of the other explainations!

robertsdvd
08-28-02, 08:50 AM
Roberts is my last name and "dvd" is just a condensed version of my first (David) - i adopted it many years ago as a username for some other service and its easier to keep using it so its more universally recognized or something. It does not stand for Digital Versatile Disc or Digital Video Disc thank you very much!

digger

My initials are D.G.R which sound phonetically as Digger.

Natophelia
08-28-02, 09:27 AM
hehehee...my initials are NMF. "Nymph" Hmmmm....

I started using "Natophelia" several years ago when I signed up with AOL; easier just to keep the same one for everything. It's made of my name (Natalie) and the name of a character from Hamlet (Ophelia). I was a big fan of the play at the time.

Yeah, but Portia from The Merchant of Venice was waaaay dishier (and smarter) than Ophelia. ;)

Mine was thrown at me by some guy I used to know, and it just stuck. I'm Don, and I'm not sure where the "Mata" bit came from.

I like wolves and I like to draw and write.

Is that one of your cartoons? Very good if it is.

What about the EH Imperial Gunboat pilot under the avatar?

Mine "Lekker jol" is from the afrikaans suggesting a "great party", "good time", "great night out", etc. Hence to go jolling.

oceanrider
08-28-02, 10:03 AM
Ummm... I live on Ocean Drive, ride on Ocean Drive/A1A. Swimming and the ocean and all its beauty teeming with life is part of my soul. Has been my entire life as a south florida native. My favorite way to end a ride is to de-shoe and take a swim.

Thanks! Yeah, I drew it. The pic on my avatar isn't actually a gunboat pilot, it's Severus Snape. Yeah, I drew that, too....I used it for my avatar just because I liked that good ol' Goth sneer. :D Maybe I'll replace him with the wolf, though...

sscyco
08-28-02, 10:16 AM
SS = single speed, the bike I ride the most
cyco = my SS is a cyclocross, I know, no "L", that's because-
sscyco = psycho, because I = nut job (so I've been told)

Natophelia

Like the wolf!

zemaj
08-28-02, 10:24 AM
Well my names is JAMES and so if I spell it backward it's SEMAJ. So one day I was signing up for some email account and that's all i could think of. And SEMAJ was taken so I picked a Z instead.

Actually i really don't even like the name. When I meet people from discussion boards I don't like to say ZEMAJ. I think it sounds lame. heheh

Maybe I'll sign up with a different name since I haven't been on here long.

Snape? Schweeeeet. I'm a Harry Potter addict myselfl; an ex-chick (not long enough to be considered a girlfriend) of mine got me hooked on them when they first came out.

urbanking
08-28-02, 10:31 AM
Cylieu cle Path (lbs) in waterloo, is located on the corner of urb and king, say it fast, and its urbanking, and i thought it suited me because lots of my riding is done on the urban scene.

webist
08-28-02, 10:50 AM
Miine comes from the name of a web design firm I used to own called Webist Internet Solutions. I still do some design work but am busy running an ISP for the most part. Actually it's the ISP I sold my design firm to.

Guillermo
08-28-02, 11:12 AM
Guillermo is my first name. I don't use it as my primary name for obvious reasons. Dax, my middle name, is a little easier to grasp.

Bikes-N-Drums
08-28-02, 11:22 AM
Well, ya' know, I like riding bikes. And I like playing drums. There's other things I like but there's only so much space! Also, when I signed on here, someone had taken my typical sign-in name (which is odd because it's very unusual).

khuon
08-28-02, 12:13 PM
I'm boring... mine's just my last name. It's been my username ever since I had my first computer acct and I've had it for all my accts throughout college and into my career. On EFnet IRC, I go by WintrHawk (9 char limit so I had to drop the "e") which was taken from a Craig Thomas book.

caloso
08-28-02, 12:21 PM
I went to Cal, short for the University of California at Berkeley. Oso is Spanish for bear, the school mascot and state animal.

I thought of using "stanfurdsux," but I'll leave that for another Cal alum. :p

I use caloso as screen name for lots of sites.

PrimalQ
08-28-02, 12:23 PM
As a Mountain Biker I always loved the Primal Wear Jerseys, Actually All my jerseys are Primal Wear. I started road riding this year and I bought a Jamis Quest, so I named her Q. So that is how I came up with my name PrimalQ.

mechBgon
08-28-02, 12:36 PM
The first bulletin board I ever signed up for was a Mechwarrior3-related one, so I picked a name I'd used as a mercenary in Mechwarror2 Mercenaries: "mechBgon," a takeoff of Ortho's "weedBgon" weed killer. :) Maybe I'll switch avatars to my Timberwolf scribble for a while... :) Anyway, I've kept mechBgon on all subsequent BBS's.

Inkwolf, you should switch to the wolf for sure... that scowling avatar just doesn't suit you, and the wolf is soooo cute :) I like cats, here is one drawing I did back when I worked at a bicycle shop that sold snowboards too...

earleybird
08-28-02, 12:36 PM
Well as we are all giving away our little secrets.
I was blessed (cursed) with the name Earley.
All of my life I have been late for everything. No matter how hard I try I am always late.
Family and friends lay odds how late I'll turn up. I can spend all the previous evening packing , planning and loading the car and I'm still late arriving!......

At school I was nicknamed late.
so I thought I 'd call myself earleybird
When I can find a picture and learn how to add it I shall have a nice big thrush with a worm in his mouth!

earleybird
08-28-02, 12:45 PM
Wow mechBgon

I just luv cats any shape or size I love the little house cats and I love the big mountain cats, any cat at all, in fact
I am nuts about all cats and I can ramble on and on an.....

hipchecker6
08-28-02, 08:07 PM
Like many others, my username is my original when i 1st started using this wonderful internet thing several years ago, and i decided to keep it out of simplicity for myself and others. at the time i created my 1st username i was an avid hockey player and fan. actually i used to eat, sleep, and breath hockey. and the hip-check (a type of bodycheck using, you guessed it, the hip) was my signature. and 6 was my jersey number. thus i became hipchecker6.

bfb2003
08-28-02, 10:46 PM
this is actually quite interesting - some usernames I would never guess their origin !

my username was chosen because of the current focus of my riding - a ride from Perth to Hobart next year. It is a fundraiser for Bike for Bibles, hence bfb2003.

I have lots to learn in terms of stamina, fitness etc. in order to be able to do the 4200kms (2625miles) over 32 days.

I made a web site to promote the ride http://www.pascoe.biz/bfb2003
feel free to have a squiz.

oxologic
08-29-02, 01:28 AM
I was thinking of some cool name that is original ........

Then, at that point, I thought of oxygen and logic, not sure why either. Then, it should be oxylogic, but I didn't like that a lot, that's why I changed to oxologic. I find that kinda cool, not sure about you guys.

People always give me the confuse look when I tell them my e-mail address, wondering how I got 'oxologic' and asking where that comes from. I just give them the confused look as well. HEHE

I needed a handle about five years ago and it just happened to be raining. "Rain" didn't look right so I changed the spelling.

LegalIce
08-29-02, 05:47 AM
Formerly a practicing lawyer, hence 'Legal', and an avid hockey fan/newbie player...allah 'Ice'...LegalIce... :p

CycleMON
08-29-02, 06:12 AM
Cycle - I love cycling
MON - I'm Jamaican and people are always pronouncing "man" as "mon" to mimic me, so I use it to retaliate.:D

lotek
08-29-02, 08:48 AM
Lotek from the William R. Gibson novella Johnny Nmemonic,
in the book Burning Chrome.
Very low tech group in a very high tech society.
I grabbed the name for use on an audio board, it also
describes both the type of circuits I like, and my electronic
abilities (when it comes to building amps etc.).
Retro ParrotHead? easy, Buffet fan, parrot head like
retro bikes.
Next question?

Marty

1oldroadie, nah, I don't think it really applies other
than you've been a roadie for a while!

Inkwolf, I thought that looked like Snape. Like the wolf. You should try selling it to NC State Univ., home of the wolfpack.

Cowgirl arose because I have cow stuff all over the kitchen. There's a corny story behind black and white cows between me and my husband. Has anyone ever seen an oreo cow?
