alright I've got some problems with the drive-train now so I'm definitely out. My bb just moved to the right 4-5mm and now my left crank is hitting my chainstays. I don't have the right tools... and I can't seem to spot a lockring on this miche bb. I'm lost and I don't know what to do, looks like a trip to the lbs for me on friday which is the only day this week I'll have any free time at all.

This sucks Miche SUCKS!!!

Hmm, on second thought, I'd rather go have a burger and beer at the squealing pig. Yeah, yeah, I suck. I'll be there around 9:30 if anyone cares to join.

Snow! Boston folks- see you outside!

Try freaky blizzard with thunder and lightning. I've never seen anything like it in five years of winter riding in Boston. Holy crap.

As they say around here, "Aw for fook's sake!"

My wife's been telling me all day about how you're getting your blizzard on or some junk. Here's it's been in the 40s and 50s all week and mostly damp or raining. Typical Irish winter.

I've been so busy trying to soak everything in that I really haven't ridden much since Saturday. (My room wasn't ready, so what better than to go out and blast around the city for a few hours with no map?)

One of my new coworkers is from Saskatoon and he said the no snow thing pretty well sucks the big one.

the lightning was great- I'd riding along in total whiteout, and suddenly it looked like the air had caught fire, from the lightning bouncing off all the falling snow. blue light everywhere. The thunder, when it came, was kind of strangely muffled.

Then i went back to wondering what side of the road i was on.

Farkin A, dude! I was super stoked to catch the CX nats, too.

On the other hand, I've been poking around and it looks like there are some decent dirty races just outside the city here.

Things is fun, though I've got a damn cold.

More cyclists than I usually saw at home. 'sides CMWC 2007 is in Dublin, so I expect you *****es to make a showing! Booze is tres expensive, though. I wonder how that'll play. About the best you can do is buy the cider in a 2L bottle. I spent 13 euro on a 35cl (about 12 oz, less than a pint) of Bacardi tonight. End of the week, I'm sick, nothing better to do. And dammit, I'm worth it! ;)

when i got up at noon today, there was barely any snow on the ground and i figured that i might as well catch some extra sleep, since i wouldn't be required to take the t. when i woke up at 1:30 it was like a whiteout. i was so pissed. pissed that i was going to be late. pissed that i couldn't ride. pissed that i didn't pick up a pair of those skis that attach to bike tires a la the paperboy in "Better off Dead." the lightning was pretty cool though.

2007 isn't in Dublin yet I don't think, they're just petitioning to get it there.

Yesterday was interesing. I got to lock up down the entire trailing side of the Longfellow heading into Cambridge, and STILL pass a cab spinning his rear tires (while he was driving down a hill at that..?). Standing in Pemberton Sq. and having absolutely no idea which side of me Center Plaza was on was something I won't forget either.

Really? messengers.org already lists it as CMWC 2007, but it may just be a miscommunication. On the other hand, they have a question mark after the '08 Japanese locations, so the implication is that '07 (no question marks) is decided.

Wouldn't this have been decided at the '05 open forum in NYC?

If it's Dublin I'll start reading Ulysses so I can find my way around.

Hmm. Maybe I'm wrong, I hadn't seen that yet, and a few weeks back all that was up was on http://www.iol.ie/~adamj/pics/CMWCXV/ , which just says it's a proposal to host. I guess the proposal went through, and you'll have some houseguests! Anyone on here have plans of going to Sydney? I already took the days off work.

I dunno man, riding when it's in the teens seems like an express train to frostbite (unless someone has some XL booties to put over my shoes). I can't wait for some nice long WARM rides in LA next week...

Did I see you guys ride past the Someday Cafe in Davis Square? Or was that another group of fixed gear riders?

rutt
12-13-05, 11:18 PM
That was probably us. Howell aka fatbat, a coworker of mine, and myself rode through Davis and Teal squares to Tufts. There's an excellent view of the city from the top of their library, and we saw some shooting stars to boot. We rode back to Harvard by way of Medford and Washington. It was a toe-numbing good time!

I was wondering who the third was. Is this the coworker who trashed his wheel a couple weeks back?

Sounds romantic ... did you guys make out?

rutt
12-14-05, 08:29 AM
No, that coworker is still waiting on a new wheel. He's also considering a less flashy bike for the city, but then he just bought the wheel, and he works at a coffee shop, so funds are a little tight. We may not see him for awhile.

This coworker came out for the first time last week, and actually convinced Howell and I to do the ride last night.

A new wheel?- that's too bad. I figured all he needed was a couple of spokes & some time with the truing stand.

I'm so there. This is the Bukowski's in Inman Square, by the way. Which is technically Cambridge, but about 30 feet from the Somerville border.

I may be bailing on this ... my fist had an unfortunate encounter with a head last night ... I think I threw out my back and I lost my mini u-lock AGAIN $100 and counting one a month god I need to learn to recognize when it is time to call it a night. My back hurts so bad, I think I will be going home as soon as my boss shows up. I actually had to drive my car to work today ...booooooo

Alright, sorry I've been so silent lately (did anyone notice?). Been visiting folks in Ohio, but now I'm back! It's Tuesday night, and the weather looks decent. Who's up? As an extra incentive, I'll bring some of my present from the Great Lakes Brewing Company (http://www.greatlakesbrewing.com/).

Wish I could, but I'm preparing the Bianchi for a friend. Check out the attached pic of the lower bearing retainer. Ew.

bostontrevor
12-27-05, 11:46 PM
Ouch. Have you been riding that in the wet?

If so, you should fit it with a weather seal. Cut a short sleeve of rubber from a mountain bike tube. With the fork out of the frame, slide it up over the headset onto the head tube. Reinstall the fork and slide the rubber down over the headset so that it seals the underside of the bearings.

Alexi, sorry I didn't get your call. I was, in fact, on a plane.

I'm out of town until January 3rd, unfortunately, so I won't be riding anywhere. But January 3rd is a Tuesday, so maybe we can do a ride that night...
