My roomates swear by Beantown. I don't like hotdogs myself because they're made out of people.

I think the veggie dogs at Spike's are just Smart Dogs. At least, I saw a guy working there, handling a package of them. I prefer the Morning Star dogs, but at Spike's it works. It's really just a vehicle for the fixin's.

I generally prefer Spike's to Beantown. That said, last night I had a killer Taco Dog at Beantown, and the staff there is really friendly.

ha! I didn't even realize that we crossed the river twice - there goes what I thought was my natural sense of direction.

and I caved into peer pressure today and bought a vitamin water.

2) some awesome dude in a stache and wool jersey win a race.

This guy deserved to win just on style points alone. Striped wool jersey, lugged steel somec frame versus all the folks with techno bikes and standard roadie getup. Here he is pacing the lead group into the final 1km lap of the race.

i had forgotten how heavy traffic is during red sox season until yesterday, and apparently during this glorious time of year red lights are the new green

Actually, we crossed the river 6 times.

Edit: Which reminds me of one of the ideas I had for a fun ride. Starting from the Anderson Bridge into Lower Allston, we would make our way downtown via all the bridges across the Charles. To make that work right, we'd have to cross the foot bridge that's just down the road from the Anderson bridge, but I don't know if that's bikeable. I also don't know for sure what to do next after the Longfellow. I'd like to do this with a big group, with some casual riders and newbies, for a neat tour of the city at night.

That would be fun. Count me in as long as it's a night I don't have to see my old lady.

I know what to do after the Longfellow. And I don't think that that footbridge is bikeable. But we can always walk up and down the stairs. That'd be a fun ride. Let's do it!

De-lurking...

Someone pointed out on another mailing list that the marathon route is closed to traffic on Monday. Something to consider if you're looking for a daytime ride. Looks like the first wave leaves at 10am, so it might be a bit early for y'all. Also, I have no idea if officials will hassle cyclists for being on the course.

(I'll be on a train.)

man that was fun as hell...that is until the cops showed up. towards the end of the race they were yelling at people "tell them it's over, over means get off the road." strangely enough they were cool afterwards.

another spoke card, a few more battle wounds, all in all an excellent friday night.

Photos (http://www.flickr.com/photos/pixel*****/sets/72057594107792709/) available on Flickr. Oddly enough, plenty of forum members in the photos even though I didn't know everyone when taking the pictures... unfortunately most of the photos had to get trashed because they were off due to my lack of timing.

Great photos. What they don't show is my bloody chin from a fall on the very first lap. And I'd just caught up with the lead group when I clipped a cab and fell again. Ugh. Congrats to Transplant on his second-placing! Team Gigantic will rock NYC next Saturday!

man that was you? it did get a little hairy when there were 2 lanes of cabs right after the first turn.

i ended up crashing when i tried to go on the inside of a turn and got sideswiped by another racer. it was my fault, but i got out of it with a few scrapes, and a bruised hip.

yeah dude, you took a damn hard fall on that second turn, just ahead of me. you're hardcore for charging that corner so hard. good times... team gigantic will rock the godfather alleycat.

*edit* oh, and i got hit by a frickin' car today. after charging slippery corners in a race... i get some dumb**** backing up without looking and i roll over his trunk. luckily, front wheel just needed to be trued and my elbow shed some of the red juice.

The marathon is great! Only one day a year you can ride that 26 miles without any traffic. Got 25.5 miles or so today before the cops put the hammer down, group of 6, averaging 22.4 mph.

Kickass! I'm so in next year.

Absolutely! Sorry I didn't try and get the troops rallied, I didn't know the details until the last minute. We had a good crew, and Lucas even snuck by the cops at the top of Boylston, but the rest of us got stopped when one of the cops physically blocked our line. Maybe next year we can make it across the finish line.

I did Storrow last year on the 4th of July, but that was kinda sketchy, lots of roadblocks, and I think I only made it through cause I was by myself. You could give it a shot though, those tunnels are a blast at 30-35 mph with no traffic.

i hit comm ave in newton around 5:15. it was a mess of cups, sponges and orange peels and it reeked of vomit. it started getting backed up around bc, since streetsweepers and moving vans were double parked.

little kids and drunk college kids were still out cheering on the overweight, old and injured. damn dirty runners

i'm planning on going-

but i'm rolling to this (http://www.48hourfilm.com/boston/) first. a friend of a friend has a film in there (they had 48 hours to make a film, and had to work in a line, a prop, and a character). the screening starts at 7pm, anyone down to go?

pm meh

any ideas for the ride? the bridges might be fun, as would going down like by jp or newton? anyway

ha, my roommate did that same thing. i had kids in my dining room editing film all night long.

i'm going to be going through newton on my way home from work, i'd rather not go back.

fair enough re:newton

sometime i would like to go out to the middlesex fells (http://www.fellsbiker.com/maps/). not the best for a nighttime ride OR for trackbikes (esp. the trails although i'm all for trails if people want to do that mtb style sometime)... maybe riding around the ponds/lakes at some point a bit earlier in the day during the summer.

the bridge ride would be fun, i'd have to try and convince my roommate to come out for that one, maybe next week?

obviously i'm all about putting off good ideas =D

I won't be able to make it to the ride tonight, I have to work on a design for a meeting I have tomorrow. I'll try to see what I can get done at work tonight, but I honestly don't think I'll have a developed concept properly documented by 10pm. If for some reason I can make it, I'll give giessel a call.

I was thinking about planning a que sheet for some upcoming ride on the road around/through the fells, if people felt like a longer ride with some hills some evening.

A lot of the trails there are pretty chill, and a blast to ride fixed, although i did have an unfortunate crash involving wet rocks and road tires which took a chunk out of my forearm.

Are you talking about giessel's ride, or the Tuesday night ride? The Tuesday night ride meets at the pit in Harvard Square. I usually show up around 9:45, and I'd like to roll out by 10 (although lately we've been waiting for people...*cough* transplant *cough*).
