where are you living dude? we could do a ride/celebratory welcome this weekend if cats are interested.

I have a quasi-roof deck that we could use this weekend, although not sure how many people could really fit on it. someone would have to strap a grill on their back though, and seating is next to nill (don't have many guests at my place).

"I basically just want to know what the hell that building with all the fans is for..."

to circulate air through the tunnels

nah, it wasn't a ventilation building (fans were open/exposed), it looked like part of some sort of water/sewer facility.

me and my roommates are throwing our weekly bbq this saturday at 6pm. we have a grill, plenty of space, plenty of pabst, and offerings for carnivores and veg*ns alike. you're all more than welcome to come. rsvp with # of guests is appreciated so me and my roomies can purchase appropriate amounts of food and pabst.
we welcome drunken stupidity and have no downstairs neighbors to piss off.

we're located in sunny Brighton @ 54 Colborne Road. It's directly off of comm ave, one street past washington street (towards BC).

Here's a picture of the building- the big holes on the underside are huge fans.

the "bike" maps of boston are pretty worthless in my experience. get a good street map instead.

I'm presuming that Tuesday's ride is being postponed due to holiday celebrations. If people want to ride later in the week let me know, I picked up a second job just for this long weekend (can't say no to what they're paying me) and being inside cutting chipboard all day is making me itch to get out and ride.

Isn't there a race from the Hatch Shell to the Harvard Square Pit that starts the moment the fireworks stop?

Yeah, I'm not going to bother with the ride on Tuesday...although a race sounds fun, if anyone can fill us in.

I would be up for a ride later in the week. I think there's another group that meets at 11pm in the pit on Wednesday, and then a guy who posts here by the name of Greg (not sure of the username) does a ride on Thursdays from the Christian Science Center. Not sure of the time, though.

Tuesdays might be a little tricky to keep going for me...there seems to be lots of band stuff coming up. Plus, that's the same night as Londonderry races, which I know a few people from here already attend, and I might start going. Maybe we could reschedule.

The race is something I heard about a few years back. It's not a bike race, per se. Any transport method is allowed, from what I remember, though bike or T would probably be the best options. I remember seeing a website about it a couple of years ago, but haven't been able to locate it this year. Perhaps it's no longer put on, though from what I recall, it wasn't that organized in the first place.

Anyone want to ride this evening? I have a meeting at 6:30 in Davis Sq. but it shouldn't last too long (maybe an hour) so I'm up for something after that... if not, anyone know anything about the above-mentioned ride from the Christian Science Center?

I'd be down for a ride this evening- either from the pit or harvard square. i'll be free ~7:30 ish or a bit later.

Hey kids, I'm getting tired of reading the Tour de France. "Live" website dispatches aren't as thrilling as you might imagine. Somebody with cable should host a viewing! Anybody? Anybody?

Sure! just tell me which of the 1,000,000,000,000.75 times that oln has the tour on everyday everyone wants to come over for.

rutt

Count me in for tour-watching at Henry's.

Tomorrow morning and the following Wednesday, Redbones is having a tour-watching breakfast. I think it starts at 9. Last year there was a ride beforehand, but this year there's not an official one for liability reasons. I think there will probably still be some people getting up early enough to go out for a ride, though.

Speaking of rides, I will not be out tonight. A couple friends' bands are playing at the Abbey, and you should all go. Maybe Wedneday or Thursday night?

Talking to Henry yesterday evening, it came up that maybe we should shift the Tuesday ride to Thursday (due to people going up to the track, etc.) and join up with the group that leaves from the Christian Science Center. It doesn't matter to me, anyone want to weight in on this?

The Big Fix (http://www.fixhistio.org/) is arriving in Boston this Friday, July 14th. They just spent a month biking on fixed-gears from CA to MA to raise money for research on histiocytosis.

They are hoping a group of riders will help escort them for the last bit of the ride, to increase publicity and generate some attention for their cause. The current plan is to meet at Kenmore Square at 1:30 pm and ride with them to Fanueil Hall. I heard about this on the Boston Critical Mass list (message here: http://bostoncriticalmass.org/pipermail/bostoncriticalmass/2006-July/001495.html).

I'll keep in touch with the organizers and post here if there are any changes to the plan.

I don't have any association with this group, other than thinking that what they are doing is cool, and wanting to help out. PM me or post if you plan on helping out (just for rough numbers).

If I run into you guys while I'm working downtown I'll join in. You might want to pass through Wnthrop square and see if you can get some of the other messengers to jump in for the last 100 yards.

Just talked to the poster of the original email. Plan is still 1:30 at Kenmore, some possible waiting for a bit for riders to come in, and leaving for Fanueil hall by 2:00.

It would be nice for a bunch of people to come out for two reasons: more publicity for the ride and its motivation, and to provide more of a party atmosphere for the riders that are finishing up a pretty grueling journey (http://www.fixhistio.org/ride/route.html).

EDIT: Friday, July 14

I'll definitely be there (yes, I'm still alive). I'm trying to rally some of the MIT heads to be there too, since it's right across the river from us. Man, I kinda miss riding with you guys...I'll have to make it out one of these nights.

Last bit of info, from the organizers:

The specific meeting place is going to be a small parking lot that is next to the Sovereign Bank (across from an UNO’S) just off Kenmore Square (apparently you can see it from the main intersection).

Map: http://tinyurl.com/e8axp (though I think the parking lot might be on the south side of the building).

Hey Boston racers, as some of you know I was supposed to ride with Transplant and Seth in the Lemond Team race in DC this weekend, and that I'm bailing on them like a sucka because of family commitments. Anybody interested in doing it in my stead? You gots to be fast, because this is the sprint leg: 22 miles through a flat section of DC, then a team time trial of unknown (to me) length to the finish. They're driving down on Friday and driving back up on Sunday, I presume. Let me stress: this ain't for the faint. You'll be racing against the fastest, hill-climbing-est kids on the east coast, including Teams Puma and Trackstar. Also, you'll be representing our fair city. So, who wants a piece of the glory?
