Rides and Races - Boston rides

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

oooooh, you're on, Sleazy McScruffy Beard.
don't race me with the dog in the basket though, that scares the **** out of me, well, scared for the dog.
the sexist comment involving tampons is quite a bummer though.
why don't we bike ride more?
just a heads up,
aeser (my cousin jason) took a serious fall on the esplanade bike path on wednesday. he was tearing ass and hit an unexpected rut near the hatch shell and endoed. he ended up smacking his head and breaking his elbow, neither of which was as bad as spending the night in mass general. they gave him some morphine, a cast and a prescription for percocet for his troubles though. anyways, he's doing fine now, but won't be riding for a bit. his bike needed a few minor repairs. had a brake, but no helmet.
i figure some of you have probably met him, as he raced schlitz and some other ones.

That sucks- hope that all that heals up fast.
The mass general ER is the worst, especially at night.

The Esplanade is really torn up right now. Who would you contact about fixing that stuff? They tore up a a small patch last week and just left it open with no signs or cones.
Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) manages the park: 617.626.1250/interweb (http://www.mass.gov/dcr/).
The Esplanade Association is a non-profit involved with the DCR: 617.227.0365/interweb (http://www.esplanadeassociation.org/index.html)

Kings was a good time, thanks for the invite. I was the girl who kept knocking things over, and getting in the way of people's shots.
Is bike polo still over by South Station? More details, please.

So, does anyone else miss the midnight crits?
I know Scott from rushin' moved away, so who wants to man up?
I recommend inman square between the 21st and the 27th.
Speaking of revivals...anyone interested in a ride tonight? 10pm @ the Pit in Harvard Square?
Bah! Last week on night class, don't think I'll be able to make it.

ive gotta work on a final project tonight so i can't.
and to warrantchief, i've been throwing around the idea to people about reviving some sort of race series like midnight crit. i've been too scatterbrained to post it on here, but why not now.. i figure some sort of cash in for prizes to make it interesting.. it would just be nice to have some regular competition going on.

This past week it was over at winthrop square as well as one of the previous weeks. An asian volleyball league has been taking up the court lately.

I am sensing some cyclists feeling deprived of races, competition, and alleycats from the last few posts. I just sent this out to a lot of people managing webpages and am looking for all of your help in hyping this to make it huge. I would love for this to be an open source where several of you can help with publicity, prizes, graphic design for flyers, drafting a waiver, simple webpage design. The idea is to have a Triple Crown Series of three races throughout the year. Corporate Shakedown on Saturday, September 9 Weapons of Minor Destruction sometime in December. Anyways, read below and get on my email list. Reply here if you are willing to help.
"The Corporate Shakedown Race will be taking place Saturday, September 9 in Boston. This is the first of the Boston Alleycat Triple Crown Series (Weapons of Minor Destruction coming in December). Will be a choose your own adventure race of sorts (details will be revealed the day of).
Registration at 230PM next to the fountain/pond between the Galleria Mall/Sears/Memorial Drive in Cambridge. Race will start at 330PM. Cost is $2. Bring hustle and a lock. Prizes are from the Salvation Army, Goodwill Industries and my basement (for now). Email bostonalleycattriplecrown@gmail.com to get on the email list for this and future races."

Corporate Shakedown has its own thread now. Move that discussion there. Definitely potential to have sprints follow the alleycat. The finishing area should have some nice stretches.

Party at my house in Central on Friday. Hit me up for info. This qualifies for the rides thread because if the cops come we all have to ride away.
10pm tonight at the CSC fountain... blah blah blah...

What I usually make is similar.
1 lime
1 cup of tea
at least 2 shots of whisksy
a lot of honey
mix it 'n' serve hot!
Take two nyquil after and you'll pass the **** out! it rules.
Hot toddy with whiskey-
Boiling water + sugar to taste
juice of 1/2 lemon.
2 shots whiskey
sprinkle of nutmeg
powdered ginger or cinnamon optional.

Beer is for sure helping
One of these weeks I'll make it to a Thursday ride...I would have much rather been out tonight than at a rather disappointing band practice.
Speaking of which...we're playing at Charlie's Kitchen on Monday night. :)
since searching is temporarly disabled, any of you guys live near the mfa/northeastern? i'm moving in to an apartment on huntington ave. at the beginning of september, and was just wondering what biking is like in that area. i heard they're tearing up the T tracks soon to replace them, so i imagine it'll be pretty interesting in the coming months.

riding that area is a lot like the rest of boston-****ty. huntington, near northeastern is full of double parkers that make riding in the right lane scary..but bombing down from brigham circle to northeastern is a lot of fun.
on another note.....
how much fun was the team safety ride tonight???
last nights ride was a blast, wish I could have stayed around for the 2nd half but I over slept enough as it was. having a group of 13 definately adds to the flavor.
oh yeah, I have two friends coming out from Western MA on Sunday that are bringing their bikes and looking to ride. its gonna be pretty laid back (they'll be on mountain bikes I'm gonna guess and I'm not sure on how they are with city riding) and going to the typical visitor spots: Castle Island, Long Wharf, etc. If anyone feels like puttering around the city that day, lemme know.
i figured as much... however, from brigham circle to northeastern is about the length of my commute (i'm starting at the museum school this fall).

erm that's like 2 blocks... I think I'd pull my hair out.

You'd get hit by a car is what you'd do. Stupid Huntington jerkhole drivers.
But Henry's right, that's more of a stroll than a "commute."
A friend and I are taking a road ride this Sunday. 30-40ish miles. Hit me up if you want to come along, but don't laugh if I show up with gears.
figured i'd throw this out -
throwing another semi-weekly bbq/vegancue at my place tomorrow starting at 6:30. pbr, and fare for omnivores, and herbivores(like yours truly), bringing other stuff is appreciated (especially skanks). modus operandi is the usual stay for a burger, or pass out on our floor - it's all good. sometimes it's 30 people sometimes it's 10, the more the merrier. come later and you'll probably see me doing drunk sprints and skidding up and down my street - it's a good street for it.
the addy is:
54 colborne road
brighton ma 02135.
basically head up comm ave towards bc, and hang a right onto my street. go a block and a half and then head up the driveway to the left. then it's dare, double dare or physical challenge.
