Rides and Races - Boston rides

Quick Q for you Boston folks....

I've been looking @ moving up there for some time now, and wanted to know how riding there is w/ the traffic/weather/... and such. Any areas to steer clear of? I'm looking @ living around BU or with my brother in Brookline.

In Tallahassee, FL, traffic and weather are never really that bad.... (unless you're made of sugar. If that's the case, don't ride in the summer. Rains like a **********er.)

It gets ****ty no doubt, but there are a lot of cyclists and a lot of them (myself included) ride year round.. if you live either in brookline or the BU area you'll be fine without a car and just a bike...layers, waterproof shell etc and your fine..

snowy winters, baking summers, rainy falls, and confused springs

take that and scramble it in a pot.. and you'll have new england weather

you'll learn to love the variation in the weather and take it as a point of pride.... or you'll move back to the south. in my experiance its all about the gear- dress well and you can bike in almost anything

so, I'm thinking about organizing an "allston/brighton" scramble alleycat (or "kitten" as some may say). It will probably be in January... or if people were willing to do it on a sunday it could be anytime in december. Let me know what you guys think. Once I have that... I will give you more details.

a scramble is like... a smaller area than a regular alleycat with a lot more check points. Should be sweet!

also, i'd like to mention that, apparently, some people in the southern states think us northern riders are genuine toughs for riding in the winter.

I got so bummed when I looked outside this morning and saw this ****ty weather.

so yeah, people should show up tonight to ride even if I'm not going to be there. Its man-night and my masculinity cannot be called into question!

ha, is that like, as opposed to ladies' night? don't worry pixel, i didn't show up at ladies' night last night but i promise you i'm still a lady. that is, when i'm not a ninja.

Our man night doesn't involve riding bikes. I think it does involve punching kittens or something like that...

yeah, i guess two of those three things were alexi. wrestling was just all of TG and chosen adversaries.

Dude, I hated that road in my CAR. It's probably still one of the worst maintained road and worst in traffic of all roads in Boston proper, IMO.... I used to take it like every day to school and all i could hear was my suspension crunching from potholes.

more than welcome to, its just that me working till 10pm kinda leaves you unable to ditch your gear at my place prior to alcohol consumption. if you'd like you can leave it at my work and grab it when I get out.

i'm trying to convince my friends who will be in town next weekend to do the providence ride, but i don't know if it will happen. 2 of them are bike girls, but they're both out of biking shape, and one is a non-bike boyfriend. so we'll see.
