Yeah, this weather was a harsh welcome when I got back to Boston (being sick doesn't help much either though). NOLA was in the 60s pretty much every day and after a week I was starting to get used to it. Oh well, just gotta layer up and its not that bad.

is anything going on this weekend? i've been in nyc for the winter break and just came back to boston this morning, so i couldn't partake in the thursday night ride (which i just learned about last week). i figure biking with others is probably slightly better than biking by myself (which is still uber-fun).

Anyone down for riding tonight?

possibly..yeah. i had been meaning to upgrade some parts on my bike, but was too lazy to go over to cambridge cycle.

edit: if there's something going on tonight; i'm in.

I was thinking of doing a longer ride on sat or sun but there looks to be shiatty weather on both sat/sun.. :/

it'd be nice if the rain held out for a few days, but it doesn't look like it. and the rest of the week seems like it will be really cold. weather.com says that next weekend will be nice-ish.
who knows, i might just ride anyway because riding>most other things.

I just got back from seeing The Onion Cellar at the ART.

It was pretty much awesome.

If you guys haven't seen it, you should try to check it out saturday, the final day it's playing.

just came up with an awesome idea for a competitive RIDE... cash and drinking involved no racing though.

wasn't really MY idea, but i deffinetely incorperated it into cycling.

bunch of us get together and put 5-10 bux into a pot
we ride to a bar and at that bar you receive a playing card.
have a drink or two.
we then proceed to 4 other bars and again, at each bar you receive a playing card.
then we continue to a "finish line" and at that point everyone pulls out their cards and who ever has the best hand wins the entire pot.

basically a pub crawl with cash to be won.

who is down?

Or we could just play cards for money.

While naked women sit around on our bikes. With clean vaginas of course, I don't want no stink on my saddle.

i may have somewhat of a gambling problem (i need to steer clear of atlantic city and las vegas), so i am definitely down to play cards for money... but that's only if it isn't nice enough out to ride.

Man, if you're going to do it right, you'd need to lay down some cash at each checkpoint/bar.

no, i ride from back bay to jp. the wind yesterday sucked though, i can imagine why they didn't look amused.

also 20, can't do the ride.

i would be in for cards but not so much for the naked women on bikes. even ones with clean vaginas. i plan on being the only girl on my bike and i prefer to ride it fully clothed. i'm boring like that.

and i'm up for a ride tonight if there is one, i don't care if the weather is ****.

ps. kilgore trout = best ever.

Is your birthday today?

We could ride to some random park and drink bourbon.

i'm probably in for a ride tonight, depending when it is, sooner is better. maybe riding somewhere to get some food and drink?

edit: I'm thinking of falafel, and there's supposed to be an excellent place on harvard ave going towards coolidge corner from alston (called "rami's" i think). also there are parks and liquor stores nearby.

last week was the first i had even heard of any bfssfg boston group rides, so wherever you guys normally meet works for me. i'm up for riding in celebration of someone's b-day.

ratattack: the weather doesn't seem to be ****; a bit on the cool side, but no rain thus fay. thanks, i love kurt vonnegut, my favorite author of all time; i've read all his novels and most of his short story collections.

Ok so tonight's ride. How does this sound to everyone: meet in allston (because it seems thats where most people are, lets say the playground off of allston ave) around 830, leave at 9. Ride around for an hour+ or so (up for anything as far as a route). End up at a bar and (zuzu is having soul-le-lu-jah.) (wait... can everyone get in?).

Discuss.

ratattack
01-13-07, 06:03 PM
greg and i will go if we can get directions to the playground that are a little more specific. and i can't get into zuzu's but that's cool, we're probably going to his place after so i can try out his roadbike.

ting-a-ling indeed.

I don't think I'm going to make the later ride (got friends coming over) but I'm going out to get some falafel in a few minutes and maybe ride around brookline a little to find somewhere nice to sit and eat it. if anyone wants to meet up, look for a red chrome bag on a rush hour. it'll be like real life where's waldo.

blu3d0g
01-13-07, 06:06 PM
if you go up comm ave, go three blocks past harvard and you'll hit allston street, make a right and the playground is on your left shortly.

so is it common for the middle east to remove bikes from the street signs, because "its not supposed to be there....?" Just an observation. This was by the cab stand sign on brookline.

Technically, no. Abandoned locked bikes to signs/racks on public cambridge property are the property/problem of the cambridge DPW, but they can only be removed if a pink tag is affixed stating that "this bike must be moved within 30 days or it will be removed."

What happened with your bike?

edit: Maybe more than what you wanted, but here's the cambridge bike faq- items #8-10 are relevant to abandoned bikes and removal.

Nothing happened to my bike. Mine was locked to the bike rack out front. I was going to a show at TT's when my friend and I saw some dude removing a bike front the sign post. Then we went inside the middle east to have a beer before TT's opened and the guy came in and jokingly asked for the middle east first aid kit and then grabbed the vodka from the speed rack and poured it on his hand. He's the old big guy that works there. I guess he was asked to remove it by someone else that works there. Those sign can be taken apart and put together in less than 5 minutes and the police didn't even question or care what he was doing. A few cabbies were concerned that their stand was no longer.
