oh man, i hope there isnt much black ice tomorrow.
looks like some one claimed that Paké infront of store 24 on harvard ave in allston. hope the owner found it and it wasnt removed by the city or a theif.
a few days before it was gone, someone had taken the drop bars off and put risers/flatbars on it. then it sat there like that for 4 or 5 more days

so who else enjoyed the 20 degree weather and 20 mph winds that made it 3 degrees tonight?
i couldn't feel my fingers for half my ride home. it seems we finally got some winter.

it was terrible around 9pm. tomorrow morning is supposed to be like 10 degrees with a 15mph wind so we're talking like -5 degrees on a bike. **** winter

yeah, i rode to a show tonight and to minimize stuff to hold during i only wore a vest, a 3/4 sleeve sweater, ****ty gloves that i've been using until i replace my good ones that got lost, and stuck my lock in my pants. this was a terrible idea b/c when i got out of the show @ 1030 the lock was against my back and freezing cold. the ride home was not fun.
i will be sincerely bundling up for the ride to work tomorrow morning.

i did that today, i just retired my fingerless gloves for the season and picked up a pair of Pearl Izumi Cyclone gloves, mid-weight gloves. $40.

those are what i'm buying heavier gloves to replace. i bought them in the fall and they were good until things got under 20. my fingers were in pain for about half my ride home. i could just be a wuss though :)

haha. i just went to buy heavier gloves today. the guy selling them to me at my LBS said something along the lines of "as soon as it drops below that certain temperature for the first time, everyone who bikes is coming in for new gloves and clothing"

**** YEAH!!!! another that rocks shorts all year round.
I've been biking in warm weather for the past 2.5 years. I haven't really ridden in temps under 25 and that was coming back from bars with the whiskey keeping my ass warm.

i dunno, but i think its time to have another schlitz blitz soon. this weekend is going to be clear and ****ing cold, seems like a good candidate.

i'll get one together soon

t'was an interesting night indeed....
winter warmer!

01-17-07, 04:07 PM
i agree with greg, something should happen this weekend. and it should be a true winter warmer with shots instead of beer! no offense to your amazing projectile vomit scott (or alex's induced vomiting), but i feel that chugging freezing cold beer would be painful. the beer was cold enough the last time. and this way no one ditches the drink before it's done so it'll be based more on how fast you are as a rider. :)

whiskey.....? Saturday is my birthday and I have to work. I'm going to try to see if I can work 7-4 instead of 9-6 or just see if I can go in at 9 and just leave earlier. Then somehow make my way over to freezepop/ad frank at TT's. But if there is a blitz, I might have to join this one.

speaking of rides and the weekend:
anyone up for a ride tomorrow (thursday) night? the always unreliable weather.com says it should be mild(er) than the past 2 days and no rain.
also, (still according to weather.com) friday looks pretty bad but saturday and sunday might be ok.

usually the sprints are on sunday but i wouldn't mind a saturday one. what do you say, scott?

sprints? (sorry, still kinda new to the whole boston-bike-community-rides deal) i'm just throwing out what look like nice days for riding, and i'm more down with group rides than rides by myself right now (though i do enjoy a nice leisurely, calming, solitary ride every now and then)

sorry. that was about the winter warmer that we were talking about...schlitz blitz, what have you. it's getting together in allston and doing match sprints, skid and track stand competitions, team sprints (involving beer but you can sit that one out if you'd like) and footdown. scott usually organizes them.
however, i'm in for a thursday night ride. i wasn't able to get anyone to brave the cold and ride with me tonight. :(

basic overview of the bfssfg boston communtiy. actually for anyone who just started reading.
-every thursday night: ~1 hour ride, 10pm, christian science fountain (by the pru/reflecting pond).
-some weekends: schlitz blitz/winter warmer, a street/alley type thing in allston (help), a few hours long, involves sprints, trackstand comps, footdown, skids, and the "schlitz blitz" which involves drinking and sprinting at the same time.
actually now that I am talking about it, would anyone be down with setting up a consistent, long sunday morning ride (30 miles+)?
p.s.: I am going to be gone this weekend so no schlitz blitzing for me, not even bikeless boat-shoed blitzing.

I'd be down for something like that, if the weather is cooperative. I usually try to do a good 60-70 miles every weekend.
And we'll miss you!! :(

i'll partially commit to that. depending on weather conditions and how badly i feel like pushing myself i'll go for it.

EF! i'm going to be in the mountains this whole weekend for work! son of a *****.
let's hold it off for this week, I want to find a week EVERYONE CAN MAKE IT.
we'll do it on a saturday and the next morning we can follow it up with seans 30+ ride.
let's decide between January 27th and February 1st.
we'll make it a blitz to end all blitzes.
plus i need time to design a new effing spoke card.

I like the format the way it is. Less vomiting is probably not a bad thing. I would be favor of fewer beers, maybe, but never outright elimination. Nobody's gonna take the Schlitz (or Pabst, or Black Label) out of "Schlitz Blitz" without a fight.

oh come on now. it wasn't so bad, it was a pretty nice ride if you just disregarded the rain. it wasn't even that cold!
