oh come on now. it wasn't so bad, it was a pretty nice ride if you just disregarded the rain. it wasn't even that cold!

the only waterproof/weatherproof jacket is my massive snowboarding jacket. :(

i wore nothing waterproof. i ended up soaking wet and mildly cold (just hands and feet), but hey, it was still a good ride.

can anybody give me any more details on this feb 10th race? i'll come back for it.

What details do you need? Register @ 1:30. Race @ 2:00. $5 meet at the public gardens on arlington between beacon st and comm. ave. Anything else?

My attendance at Thursday night rides will be even sketchier this term, as Thursdays are 14 hour days for me at work (class + TA + 8 hour shift). I'll try to make it when I can, but I honestly don't know how up to it I'll be feeling when I get out of work at 10.

anyone know anything about the race alexi has supposedly been organizing? i thought there was something coming up soon. it's been way too long since there's been a good alley cat or crit, which is a shame since it's been relatively mild out.

hey jacob what's the plan for your march 3rd race? would love some more info.

anyone up for a ride tonight? i was thinking a trip to castle island. meet @ the reflecting pool around 830, leave at nine. the weather looks like it'll be nice, tonight is supposed to have a low of 27* and the wind isn't too bad.

alexi's gig is on feb 24th.. he's working on flyers right now, but it should be/will be a raffle and viewing of 'quicksilver' at 'the otherside cafe'. prizes include a wheelset from revolution and all monies will go to the bmef.

nope, i guess that's it. just wanted to know if i needed to bring anything specific. sounds like it'll be worth the round trip on the fung wah.

even though i'm a junior in college up here, i still don't know boston as well as i should. until that time comes, can anyone recommend a/some good map(s) of boston and the boston area? [how i wish it were all a grid!]

the borders in downtown crossing sells this really great 4 x 6 spiral bound cabbie book of boston and the surrounding areas. every street name in every area is indexed in the back, too. its definitely not waterproof, though :) i think i got mine for about 12 bucks.

Get a map. Boston streets do not take long to figure out, just explore on weekends. I hate grid cities.

The BTD (City Hall, 7th floor) has this same book, just Boston only, for like $2.

I keep reading this thread and getting excited too ride before I remember it's still 6 more weeks before I'm allowed to ride my bicycle. :<

At least I can use the dude ride to help focus on PT...

yeah, i'm planning on doing monster track the next weekend, but i think i'm going to be overhauling my bike in between since i'm beating the crap out of it this winter. but if anyone is coming up for monster track that needs a couch, mine will probably be available. ...and i keep hearing something about a "best fake tan" award.

in the IRC chat there was some discussion of the fact that the Thursday night ride has dwindled.. would it make for a better weekly ride to change the day/time? (I say this only as a point of discussion, just try'n to test to waters)

someone has reminded me that critical mass is this friday.

also, who here is thinking of going to monster track? the ladies might take an nyc field trip...

i'm up for changing the "thursday night ride" to fit other people's schedule.

i thought CM was the last thursday of every month? hopefully i'll make it to CM because the past 4 ones my bike has been in a different state than me. also, i'm probably going to do my first monstertrack this year and will be making the trip down to nyc.

hmm, i guess that just adds to the reasons why i've managed to miss most critical masses.

i want to see a huuuuuge boston turn out at monster track! i'm still planning on coming up for the feb 10th race, so if you still need a place to stay in new york by then, come find me. i'll have a black iro w/ velocities and a blue puma bag.

and as far as NY goes it sounds awesome but right now I don't think I can... useless maybe there is someone I can bum a real cheap ride with...

no one else has an opinion about the weekly ride or a suggestion for a better day?

If I'm correct, critical mass starts are copley square directly across from the CVS on Boylston. I think six is the universal time, but some cities start at different times.

There's a guy named Chris who I've met at a couple races who does custom paint jobs. He used to work at IF. Anybody have his phone number/email? Got a friend who wants to have an old Bianchi painted. PM me or write it in pig latin or something here. Thank you much.

I would make more Thursdays or other weekday rides if they were earlier. Tuesday and Thursday? 8PM?

dear boston messengers.

random question...

I have a photography project due next week for school, where I need to take a picture of a subject in his or her own enviorment. so obviously i wanted to do something bike related.

I need someone who would be available this week (Thursday afternoon, Friday afternoon, or Saturday) for a few hours (1-2) to just let me take pictures of them in different areas of the city; riding, standing, etc.

I'll buy you lunch from Al's.

thursday night is just a bad time for me, it's the end of a 13-15 hour day, and I start the next day at 9 this semester, so it's pretty bad for now. though to be honest, given the amount of things I have going on right now, the only thing I'll be showing up for is the occasional blitz and race anyway. when I had fridays off, the thursday night rides were perfect though.

chris isn't doing bikes any more to the best of my knowledge, just doing motorcycles. i don't want to give out his number if he isn't, so maybe ask jacob...?

i can't give out numbers, but if you look around downtown, he'll probably be in line at a smoothie or pastry store with a big grin on his face.

i don't think he does bike repaints anymore, but who am i to say?
