for those of you who aren't dead from yesterday's race, anyone interested in riding today (sunday)?

what's up with the possible 40-ish mile ride today?
Sorry, but that's out of the picture, homework n' all. Wasn't productive at all yesterday. Sorry to read about your un-luck as of late.

the people who completed all the check points rode an estimated 60 miles.

Really wish I could have finished the race so mad that I wacked a car and went to the Hospital. At least I have an idea what it will be like next year.

I really wish i could have finished the race also...i felt like i could have done it, if i would have just kept with a group and been more organized. I guess this is the learning curve, these alleycats are a different breed. So effen fun.

the general consensus seems to be one of death today, so if anyone is up for rides this week, i (for the most part) have nothing going on and want to ride more than just on thursday. so what are people's plans/who's up for rides this week?

i'm not even going to be able to look at the forum for the next couple of weeks; it makes me sad that i can't join in. will you guys come hang out with me after rides? and not leave me by myself in dorchester again?

you didn't really have a choice. everyone had ditched/been forced to leave their checkpoint by the time you guys came to mine. i was getting calls from everyone to leave and just go to the finish.

i'll be down for chilling at your place.
and that makes NO sense to me. if your (plural) job is to be working a checkpoint, then you (plural) should stay at that checkpoint.

i'd like some notice as to when the next races are. there were 4 in the past 4 weeks, and i'm hoping there will be some more coming up.
personally, (without getting into specifics) i'm free after 3PM all weekdays, but this week i'm busy wednesday night, thursday is thursday night ride, and friday i'm going back to nyc. so afternoon/evening rides would be great.

that wouldn't happen to have been the footbridge checkpoint would it...that's why i had to stop racing.
yes, it was. sorry about that. but if you got to me you would've had to go to necco street which was shut down and people there were being redirected to winthrop, also shut down. people who tried to move on just came back and hung out on the bridge with me until we went to the finish. i was getting calls from everyone telling me to leave.

i propose more boston rides that sort of "explore" boston. because (and not to put down those of you who really know the city cuz i some of you, especially those who have messengered, know the city like the back of your hand) let's face it, there are a good portion of people, myself most definitley included, who don't know boston well at all. i mean, most of us know the major streets and what-have you, but still. and i figure group rides are better/more fun than one person just sitting in their room reading maps (though i do thoroughly enjoy looking at maps and cartography and what-not).
so i propose that on some of our upcoming rides, we ride around the north end, the financial district, charlestown, east boston, dorchester, roxbury, etc.

I like this idea alot, I am all for it. I am sure it would have helped us in the race more.

no big deal...i was dnf-ed already and didn't even know it. that's why i edited that comment out of the edit that i added to that post. i didn't know that anyone was paying attention in the 1min that it took for me to edit that after i realized how unfair that comment was to everyone working the race.

Thanks for working lauren.

oh, i didn't mean to sound pissed or anything. i had fun, as did my parents. i heard that some people were too drunk to work their checkpoints but my mom was doing just fine despite a few beers! i was waiting till i thought everyone came by, i didn't know anyone else was out. i was just pointing out that it fell apart by the end, craig seemed kinda sad that everyone was leaving their checkpoints when i called him to check in on what was up.

ratattack
03-04-07, 05:57 PM
yeah, they came up from jersey to make sure i was ok after i got hit on friday and then they hung out with me at my checkpoint. i painted toes and my mom passed out the flyers until some people who got fed up with the race came to help me. then my parents went to defrost at the bar next to my bridge. :)

thats awesome. I gave up before heading to your checkpoint if you were at the wooden bridge. I went to cambridge bikes[without going to charlestown first, although I was not aware that I was supposed to first].

i don't know man...i use it for all my technical classes, and it's pretty damn reliable.

Kilgore_Trout

BALDERDASH! every professor i've ever had would rip up my paper if i dared cite wikipedia. i mean, it's great for stupid useless facts. but if you need something definitive, don't look to wikipedia. too many people bring their dumb petty differences and biases when writing articles. IMO

BuddyMike
03-04-07, 07:11 PM
wikipedia is on of those things that a lot of my professors say to use it to get a general idea of a subject, then research from there. I looked up info on Milton Glaser last year and all of the dates were off by a year. But it helped when I looked up info at other places. It will be reliable if you look something up like Moore's Law where every computer geek in the world will fix it if its slightly off.

I think I might have had a better time if I knew that had happened. I went to 3 unmanned check points before I just gave up and went to the finish.

Well... that's why we engineers take comfort in the finite, wholly definitive nature of the one and zero, that is, show me the math because beyond which, there is no dispute. Anyway, I've written one of those articles.

Some of the checkpoint staff had to leave because of the police, and the rest followed thereafter. Not a one of the workers had been drinking so heavily they couldn't perform their task. You can blame me for not explaining the race well enough to you, but not everyone was confused, 40 people or so made it to all the checkpoints in the first 4 missions before they shut down, and to be honest...it wasn't THAT hard. I would have liked to see the checkpoints open later, but after the police shut down Charlestown, it seemed silly to make some of the other people sit out in the cold to wait for the 62nd place finisher.

yeah, they came up from jersey to make sure i was ok after i got hit on friday... Sorry to hear of your injury. Nothin' worse than being fast only to be taken out of commission a week later. I hope there will be some sort of compensation paid by that driver. If you need a wheel built, or something,' let me know. (I'm sure you've had such offers from real bike mechanics, LOL.)

god i'm so effing bored at work....i'm getting paid to listen to music right now... and it sucks.. espically since it's bands like the white stripes, papa roach (who i have a personal beef with to begin with), guns and roses, etc... once every 20 minutes or so i get some zepplin, wolfmother, AC/DC, beastie boys and other awesome bands... but most of it sucks... but i also have access to the forum...which is why i'm posting a lot....

WELL...

as you know i work at wbcn. well my boss called me one afternoon and asked me if i'd like to come in and record a band that was coming in to a "live" show for air play and for a few fans who won tickets on air. i agreed to come in, once i got here that saturday afternoon, i found out it was papa roach i was going to be recording. first off the band shows up wicked late, so they left the fans waiting in a room for 2 hours. then once they get here i started setting up and their "traveling producer" comes up to me and asks me why there isn't a reverb unit in the rack of the mixer we had set up and appearently my boss spoke withe someone with the band a week before and said they didn't need one. so this producer is flipping the **** out on me for no reason.

next, as i'm recording it to a pro tools session he follows me into my studio, bursts in, and starts pushing me out of the way and starts pusing button on my console and their drummer is sitting in the corner giggling like a ******. i tell the producer to move away from the board and tell me what he want's me to do, he suggests that i "put the vocals on a seperate track" and i explain to him that I couldnt bacuse we were sending the signal from the room they were recording to my studio with a stereo signal, and that that was the only way we were capable of doing it at all. so then the drummer starts suggesting to me how i can do this...he's just a ****ing morron. then the singer bursts into the room saying he wont sing with out reverb on his voice. then the producer asks me to lay a **** ton of verb over the entire track (for those of you that know protools...25% of the mix, is how much reverb he wanted).

so i had to deal with that **** for a while.... then as we started recording them the producer is hanging over my shoulder the whole time and durring the session, the singer is talking with one of the DJ's and and he's saying **** like "yo boy, it's a knock down drag out boy, yea boy better be reppin boy" all that stupid **** a stupid, white, rich, emo/ghetto moron kid from LA would say, ohh and then he tried to say worchester....WISSSTER he says.... then when we finished the session he came back in to the studio to cut some I.D. (like "this is stupid ****** from papa roach and you're listening to 104.1 WBCN") and i handed him a paper to read... the dude couldn't pronounce words like patriots, and he read **** all wrong.... god...thanks mike...i'm wicked pissed right now!

**** papa roach

sorry if I came across as a dick, but checkpoint people seem confused in more than one place and I was just frustrated because given that then checkpoints had started to close down etc I figured it wasn't worth finishing so I didn't bother stopping by the finish, turns out I would been like 27th if I had...

I didn't to martha first (I hit the dinner then went back to martha) but other than that I think I did things in the right order.

I realize you put a ton of effort into organizing this race and I appreciate that.
