Boston, a moment of silence for a fallen cyclist: http://www.thebostonchannel.com/news/11520365/detail.html
Then, we need to find out the cab company and organize a protest.

That ride on the Marathon course/day looks like fun. I'd do it but... I'll be in Hopkinton to run the race on foot instead. The beer afterwards will be happening as long as I'm able to stand up.

hey everyone, crossposted from http://www.bostonfixed.com/comments.php?DiscussionID=73
ok, jessica isn't quite sure how to post on any of the numerous biking forums, so she sent me this e-mail regarding her idea for a ride along the marathon course the day of the boston marathon:
"I am trying to get together a Marathon Day ride. It is one of my favorite
rides and I want to continue the tradition since Mully is now in Chicago. The
details are as follows:
The Boston Marathon is on April 16th and starts two hours early this year. The
group starting from the Cambridge area will meet between 6:00 and 7:00 to
head out to Hopkinton. I will plan on picking up additional riders at
points along the way. Also, we might be able to work out train schedules so
that we may meet people on our way back into Boston.
The group will have to leave Hopkinton at 9:00 (or perhaps a little earlier
depending on group riding ability). My goal is to complete the ride back
to Boston and see if we can make it onto Boylston Street before the police
kick us off the course for good. :) The marathon course is about 26.6 miles
but the ride is close to 30 miles in each direction. Please note that it is
not illegal to travel on the course (by any form of ped power) before the
wheelchair racers. It is just that the police are in a bad mood and like to
take it out on the obvious target: cyclists."
i will most likely be doing this ride, fixed. i've got no problem waking up in the morning and getting in what should be a solid 55-60mile ride. the one thing is that i propose that we move the original meeting spot from cambridge to christian science center; though from cambridge might be a shorter ride since i really have no idea where hopkinton is.
post here if you're interested in this or have any contributing ideas. plus, spread the word.
thanks.

i know, i didn't plan on getting onto long island, just wanted to go check it out
I don't get why a 26 miles course is gonna take us 60 miles?
Kilgore_Trout
04-08-07, 08:15 PM
because we wouldn't be going straight from the finish to the start to the finish. some people don't live right at boston common so it might take them some miles to get to where we'd be meeting up and then get from the finish back to their place.
brandoncstone
04-08-07, 08:18 PM
well, it won't take you 60 miles if you live in hopkinton (which is almost as far out as 495, past framingham). if not, you gotta get out there somehow..
so the Boston Marathon starts in Hopkinton and comes into boston and that is a ~26 mile trip... and we would be going out to Hopkinton and riding back in which would be almost 60 miles right??
and we would have to ride 26-30 miles out there and start heading back to boston by 9am!?!
and this has been done before with handcuffs being involved?? I mean I'm all for bending the law and maybe exchanging words with officers or being told to scramble but ya know I would hate to see the inside of a car again in this life time.. (i'm usually not concerned with these things but you mention it like cops have been a issue in the past)
