Velo city... they eat people alive there. Are they letting non-couriers win and go to the worlds now?

P.S.: I'm pretty sure people should come up to Maine and take some long rides... so beautiful right now.

sounds terrifying but it should be fun to watch from the sidelines. i've never seen a track race before!

Hey bostonfixed.com admin, guess what, you still have not fixed the DNS setting problem that's preventing me (and probably others) from posting to your rad forum. Please PM me if you're even remotely interested in resolving this issue. Thanks!

And people who post to bostonfixed, can you tell me what you're doing that I'm not? I've been able to post in the past and suddenly I cannot. What a farking bummer.

Check the suggestions thread. Here's a rundown:

http://bostonfixed.com will resolve fine on my browser, while http://www.bostonfixed.com will not. Since all links point to the http://www.bostonfixed.com (ie: they have absolute paths, rather than relative paths), I can't click any thread, nor can I post anything. I'm using Firefox. Sure, it's not made by Microsoft, but it's still pretty good. This has been happening for a couple weeks now, which is why I've been not posting over there. Help??

I think bikeforums member "warrantchief" is the creator/admin of that site.

I've never really been successful with getting on. It usually times out. Same result with mozilla, firefox, IE.
I can usually get to the "discussion" page, but never open up an individual threads.

Try my trick of deleting the initial "www." from the link locations. It'll let you read the threads but you won't be able to post.

For what it's worth, I can get on occasionally now. I really think we're talking about either a DNS server or actual server issue. It has nothing to do with my browser, since I was, for example, able to get on this morning but not this afternoon. Then I could get on again later in the afternoon. It's spotty and inconsistent. But the www trick works all the time, for whatever reason.

hey beantown bikers,

i don't know any of you - but i would like to ask for your help. i just got back from a 2 week business trip, and someone stole my bike while i was gone. it was in my basement, but the door was not locked. i am an idiot for not locking the door - but not much i can do about this now. it was a jonny cycles orange fixed gear w/ polished lugs. here are pics of the frame:

http://www.jonnycycles.com/progress/Matt.html

it had a set of polished deep v rims, campy crank, green brooks saddle, and deda chrome drops. i live in dorchester, and i am assuming it was someone in my neighborhood as opposed to a random theft (nothing else was missing). i am also assuming who ever took it will be trying to sell it, rather than ride around town. i would gladly give $500 to anyone who finds it - no questions asked. i feel like my dog died. it is a unique bike - so if you see it can you please shoot me an email (ingsy AT yahoo DOT com). thanks for the help and have a nice weekend. cheers, matt

I'd love it if there were a real velodrome 'round these parts. It's comforting that all I have to do is move to Queens, NY. (Are there any closer?)

just got back from barcelona -- it's a pretty rad city for cyclists, although out of the thousands of bikes i saw i only recognized two singlespeeds and no fixies. they have dual lane bike lanes on the outside of most of the sidewalks, and there's signage for bikes on streets without bike lanes. most people use a armored cable style lock, so i doubt bike theft is that bad. you can also smoke grass wherever you want, and everybody's cool with it. didn't get to the velodrome but i'm considering moving there.

that said if anyone has room in a carpool for new england velodrome from now until whenever - let me know.

i saw that today on my way home from work. i'm infuriated that two cyclists have already been killed. when did this happen?

my daily commute is washington st - cambridge st - n. harvard - harvard sq and that's a nasty intersection. i see a car whip out of the left lane into the right turn lane and then try to cut back left in the intersection to go straight every day. if someone is taking a left, it takes 10 or 20 seconds for the lane to start moving after the green and the right lane is mostly empty. the cars on the other end of the intersection waiting to take a right tend to attempt the turn pretty aggressively as traffic is usually heavy.

Kind of an odd request- did anyone in boston buy seagull bags' black bag?

As discussed in this thread:

Because I'd like to see it in person and try it out before I make a decision.

Well sometimes you get a little muscle fatigue after riding a good pace, so you need to have a good massage after the riding. Who to help out, but your fellow man for your buttocks massage?

In Cambridge, I was waiting patiently in my car at a green light while many of my fellow cyclists blocked traffic. It was some sort of group ride, but it wasn't even CM. I saw many spoke cards and campagnolo caps. I don't know who it was...

...BUT...

...stopping traffic in Cambridge while a POLICE CAR is trying to get through is a bad idea. The officer beeped his siren twice to say "move on." No one moved along. He turned on his siren and disco lights. Even that didn't get those cyclists moving. Repeat for emphasis: an emergency vehicle turned on lights and sirens yet cyclists still blocked him.

It looked like he chased them down. I wonder if he caught anyone.

When was this? The Ride of Silence was last Wednesday.

Today at about 7:20 PM. Mount Auburn St. and JFK St. Weekly Tuesday ride that leaves from Cambridge Bike perhaps? I'm not sure, but they ought to be more mindful of cops, laws, etc.

umm I can only guess your talking about the Ride of Silence which had about 35-40 riders and passed through Harvard Sq. on the way to Boston Commons from Davis Sq... I don't know what you saw but I can tell you that the ride was lead by Massbike and was conducted very legally. We stopped for red lights (with the exception of maybe a few people in the back riding through after a light change to keep with the group), moved over more than once to allow emergency vehicles to pass. The people with spokecards were primarily friends of Kelly Wallace, a young cyclist killed recently in a cycling accident. As for being mindful of the law and cops, we passed by many police officers and received waves and smiles from them all and even had a bike cop ride with us from about where mt. auburn meets mass ave to central sq... I don't really know what your problem with people who have spokecards is, or if you had a bad day or something, but complaining about a ride in remembrance of fallen cyclists that was conducted with great respect for the law is pretty low. This was not a critical mass style ride aimed at disrupting traffic or such, it was a peaceful silent ride.

If you would like to further complain about this ride you can feel free to Contact MassBike at 617-542-2453 or bikeinfo@massbike.org

I didn't complain. "Waiting patiently" & "fellow cyclists" were the phrases I used. I never said I had a problem with spokecards.

I just thought it was a bad move to block a POLICE VEHICLE at a GREEN LIGHT when he had his lights flashing and siren blaring. And it wasn't "a few," but many. But what do I know?

I pass by Kelly's memorial more than once every single day on a bike and in a car. Last week I left a something there. A spokecard. No ****. I didn't even know her. And the whole thing finally convinced my roommate to stop riding over that footbridge and sidewalk.

I suppose my little "Heads-up" about the cop car makes me a total ****head. Oh well.

And how the heck am I supposed to know it's a memorial ride? I said I didn't know what it was. Wasn't that why I posted here in the first place? To find out who it was. I guess I'm "low" for giving a reminder to an anonymous ride (as far as I knew) to watch for police.

Just permban me from the internetz.
