Rides and Races - Boston rides

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Well I'm all for the Squealing Pig. Congratulations, Trevor, but it's sad that you're leaving.
What the hell is this I hear about snow? Did I miss Boston's first snow while I was in NY?

Indeed you did.

And today we're grasping at 70. Go fig.
Yeah, for about three hours yesterday it was like late December (in NE Ohio, at least). At night it turned to rain and slush. The craziest part, though, is how gorgeous it is today. I got all geared and lycra-d up and did the 75-mile route on this ride (http://www.hcs.harvard.edu/huca/H2H2%20flyer.pdf). Good fun. It was everything I hoped for from an autumn ride in New England.
EDIT: Damn you Trevor! With a picture, even.
75 miles. Beastly. Edit: Though it appears to have been organized by a Harvard physics person. Ewww. (Just kidding.)
Yeah the snow was hectic; it definitely made our football game more interesting. Boston's weather is by far the most ****ed up **** I've ever seen in my life, particularly when it comes to consistency. Baltimore is barely in the same ballpark, and Los Angeles isn't even playing the same game.
Oh, and Squealing Pig sounds good to me, Trevor...I'm always down to try a new Irish pub (especially if it has good food too). Nov. 17th it is.

if i was 21 or didnt just get almost arrested a month ago for false ID i'd join in on the pig thing, but unfortunately, i'll just have to resort to only kicking everyone's ass at the track instead! haha, sorry i missed last week's events, i ended up with the gf in the north end, which wasn't too bad i guess, but then again, it wasn't track racing either.
Another windy day kids. Be careful, I just bandaged myself up after getting blown over on Washington St when I decided to zip up my sweater.

Damn, I've come close to doing just that so many times. But curiously I didn't notice the wind today on my ride in from Davis. Must've gotten lucky. Speaking of lucky, I just demolished two different people at Scrabble. Jeff, I'm thinking it's time for a showdown.
Bike content: anybody up for a ride tonight?
Let's ride tonight and get some food after. I'll be leaving work at 5-ish. What's your average scrabble score?
stickyfoot
11-02-05, 10:47 AM
I have one errand to run after work, but I'll be free afterward. I'm not sure what time yet, but I'll let you know.
I'm not sure about my average score. The past two games I broke 400. Probably I average in the mid- to high-300s.
You guys down for hangin' tommorow?
Sure, but why don't you come up tonight, too?
I think I'm doing the night MTB'ing thing tonight, my C-Dale has been giving me dirty looks lately ... wants to be ridden. But if that falls through I might come up, I should watch my $ NYC + last nights drinking binge kind of has me on financial probation until Thurs. night.

My Santa Cruz is always giving me the evil eye. Poor *******.
I spent $170 last weekend, all on bus fare and ****ty food. And copious amounts of alcohol. I've got sore legs and a t-shirt to show for it.
Tomorrow I'm going to a friend's bday gathering at the Milky Way. If anybody wants to take a ride to JP, feel free to come along. I won't be heading over until 9:30ish.
My tires won't be coming in until Friday, so (still) no GT at the track this week. Booo. If I've got my beastly problem set done by tomorrow night, I'll come out on me trusty ol' Steamroller though.
heh, I just told my g/f that I'd probably be going out to the track tomorrow night and she just sort of stood there for a minute looking at me. Totally freaked me out, because I couldn't figure out why she would care. Finally she just sighed and said, "Unbelievable. You really did forget about your own birthday didn't you?"
So, sorry guys, won't be able to play bikes tomorrow; I have to take my girlfriend out to dinner for my birthday.

You should break up with her ... bikes are far more important. btw/ Happy Birthday!

That's hilarious. Happy birthday man.

Does this not sound wrong to anyone else? Why are you taking her out for *your* birthday? I mean, it would be one thing if she were taking *you* out, but uh....
Oh yeah, happy birthday!
Ah, that's just the way these things go. She's unemployed, and I've been working this corporate job for a while now.
Thanks guys.
I'll pour out a 40 for you tomorrow night. Hah!
Man, physics really has ****ed my head up.

Choosey moms choose GIF.
I may have other engagements tomorrow evening. In fact, I think I have a few other engagements if I can remember one.
I'm in no condition to race. I trashed my wheel in this pothole on Martha Rd the other night. In fact, I took a look at it today and I'm not sure I shouldn't be ringing the National Geological Survey to report a volcanic caldera. It feels like I'm riding on square wheels.

Aha.
Me: Umm... do we have something going on tomorrow night?
Wife: Uh... HOCKEY?!
That's right, the Bruins host the Panthers. Hopefully they can actually win this one. Losing in overtime doesn't count. Following that we'll enjoy the musical stylings of the Dropkick Murphys on Ice... It's sort of like Sesame Street on Ice but with less Elmo.
No bikes for me!
So whats happening tonight fellas ... Seems like everybody has something better to do. Jrowe ... Stickyfoot?
I don't have anything better to do. I think stickyfoot said he'd be around later, and that we could go out to JP for this thing.

You're all certainly welcome to join me in JP. I probably can't hit the track, but we can ride like demons through the streets from Davis to JP. Marcus might be joining. Could be a nice little ride, followed by some drinks.
Anyone (*cough* jrowe *cough*) want to do a short afternoon ride on this lovely day? I'm thinking of riding from about 2-4, start and end near MIT, since I have a seminar at 4 that I really should go to. That should be enough time to roll out to Concord and back or something.
Did you guys see the vid (http://www.rushinrevolution.com/images/crosscrit/mpegs/crosscrit10-28-05.mpg) from the Cross Crit last Friday? Nosepicker, that crazy fcuk raced the tall bike. Funny sheit. Looked like a good time.

Yeah, that kicked *****. I emailed Mully about the race, asking who won. He said, "I thought you did." Um. Yeah. I was in Brooklyn, but whatever.

I'd pay good money to see you race your bike in drag, Trevor. Then I'd sell the pics to Google.

Dude, I've already emailed them a scan of my passport (to get a jump on the work permit) wherein I have green hair and a black earring. In drag would just be another notch on the ol' bed post.
Danger! Danger! The GT is ready to hit the streets. That is all.

Sweeet.
In other news: yo. was that anyone here that I busted by on Summer Street this evening? There was many of you, I was on my way back from FedEx in Southie with an urgent from Dublin or I would have stopped. What's doin?
Yeah I installed the other cog (for a nice relaxed 47-15 gearing...right) that came with the bike on that Dura-Ace/Open Pro wheelset I picked up a couple weeks ago. Tires came tonight, so I threw the Carbons on that set. I'll leave the tubulars for another day.
I gotta take it for another test ride...first test ride I felt what I thought was the cog slipping when I tried to do a skid. Came back and re-tightened the cog with the chain whip (didn't seem to tighten anymore) and really cranked down the lock ring. I guess I'll give it another try tomorrow...too tired to bother more with it tonight.

psn, does this mean you're gonna ride with us next thursday at the track, show us what the gt is all about?
Provided I'm not at a fancy dinner at Aujourd'hui, definitely.
And if by "show us what it's about", you mean come in last, I can for sure do that.
*tap* *tap* This thing on?
Just reminding everyone that the big ass bostontrevor send-off will be this Thursday night at the Squealing Pig (134 Smith St., Roxbury Crossing). To allow for proper digestion, trevor suggested we meet up at 8 p.m. Possible ghettodrome or street strafing afterward.
Hope everyone's having fun in Chitown!
bostontrevor
11-12-05, 08:04 PM
I'm there.
Chitown sounds like it's a lot of fun. I wish I could have made it but not going seems like the financially wise choice given the circumstances (don't get me started about how I got screwed over reselling my CDs today).
Instead, I'm on lockdown tonight as the 5-0 have the entire block on alert. Nobody in or out who doesn't live here and even then I was getting some static.

Race report:
I got third place in the Chitown alleycat! Woohoo! I got behind Msngr and managed not to lose him until almost the end, and then I caught him again. He took second. Some kid I don't know won first. Jeff DNFed after getting two flats, poor *******. Scott finished 16th, I think. We rolled dice to determine our tasks at each checkpoint, and for the first three I had to do pushups. Ugh. Twenty-five at the first, fifteen at the second, and ten at the third. Pretty awesome. I fly back into Boston tonight. See y'all on Thursday!

Nice finish, who took first?
People here in the hub, what a frickin glorious day. My police escort has dissolved and I feel the need to ride. I don't know where, I don't know how far, but I'm thinking about just rolling around downtown for a bit. Dunno. It shouldn't be anything to fast or serious because a) I just changed up my gearing in prep for sending my bike to the left coast and it's wicked low--I may have to switch it back up before I leave, but we'll see and b) I'm just not feeling it. It's a lethargic day, I'll be a lethargic guy, thanks.
I'm thinking rock out around 3pm or so. If anyone wants in, post up. Maybe we can meet up at Copley Sq. Otherwise gimme a ring at 617 308 8274.
I'm in, and now live in your hood, so am more than willing to meet up in JP before heading into town.

Oh yeah, whereabouts are you living these days? Will you be riding your Yama class frame?
Nah, that baby is still in the paint process. I'm right up at the Green St. T stop, in a big commercial space behind the MSPCC. If you wanted to meet up here, you could give it a look, and maybe drink a beer or two beforehand.

Sure, that sounds cool. Maybe meet up around 2:30ish? PM me your address and/or phone and we'll meet up. I'd love to see the setup.
Kiecker took first in the Chicago alleycat. I go two more flats later, for a total of four. FugaziDave and Judah also flatted on the way back.

I got a weird half-flat today. The front tire went soft for whatever reason. I didn't have a tube or patch so I just pumped it up and it's held. Weird. Sabotage maybe?
I got second place in trackstands. I won no prizes the whole weekend. If you're lucky, maybe you'll see Jeff sporting his mega cool custom bag that he won in the raffle.
