Introductions - Hello from a place called Swampscott.

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Hi,

My name is Rick, and I'm somewhat of a newbie cyclist.

Ever hear of Swampscott, Massachusetts? That's where I live! It's a small seacoast town about 15 miles north of Boston.

I was an avid rider in my youth, but marriage, kids, and career all kept me pretty busy. When this spring and my mid-life crisis rolled around, my wife and I decided to buy a couple of bikes. Not having a lot of money, (4 sons, 3 of them teens) we went to our lbs and bought a couple of Trek 7100 hybrids. When you toss in 2 pairs of cycling shorts, 2 jerseys, 2 helmets, and all the other little accessories our budget was busted! Well, that was it, I was in love with a bike again. We spent the summer riding most every weekday morning for 15-20 miles before work. On Saturdays we managed a little further.

We usually ride 3-4 miles to the local rail-trail, and spend a lot of time on the trails. The hybrids have worked well for us having the combinsation of road and dirt trail. We just bought a Thule hitch rack, and once we get a hitch installed next week we're heading out to the trails in a local forest. If I can figure out the logistics, I might ride the 5 mile commute to work.

We've been lurking here and reading up on all we could about cycling. This forum has been a great resource. I'll keep reading, and now that I've come out of hiding maybe I'll post if I ever have something interesting or clever to say. :D
