I bought a riser bar a couple of weeks ago thinking it would raise my posture a little more and keep my back from hurting as much. It does this great. My back doesn't hurt now. However, my hands and wrists hurt more, especially on the outside of my hands, like the muscles you use to contract your ring and pinky fingers. The only thing I can figure is since this was an older type of bar with a curve of 12 degrees, that all the pressure is going on the outside of my hands due to the curve. I wanted that curve to straighten my wrists up. The bar feels great if I'm in a position where my seat is down really low. No pressure on my hands, and my wrists are in a good position. When I raise the seat up though and ride for about 15 minutes, it starts to hurt pretty bad, it feels like I've had a death grip on the handlebars although I've been consciously trying to relax my grip.
Anyway, what combination of stem, handlebar, or other parts could I use to get a posture that's more like a downhill bike, where I'm more upright so my back doesn't hurt, yet my hands or wrists won't be in a bind? I hate the hunkered down road bike posture.
