Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Sansin NJS Professional Hubs

Hey... anyone know anything about these guys? I think I may have stripped one, but i have trouble believeing that little old me could strip an NJS hub of any sort.

I know they're not made any more... but that's all I know.

Well, not quite what you asked, but I run an old Sansin "Pro-Training" hub on my fixed mtb. It's held up to some pretty serious abuse in a fairly low 38-18 offroad, and hasn't shown signs of stripping or failing.

I'm guessing your hub should hold up even better, not worse.

Was it perhaps pre-abused for you?

Devil's Keirin frame... stay off that thing dude... No good can come of this bike...it's cursed...

I'd definitely look into getting money back and returning this. That's just plan shoddy.

I thought NJS = unstrippable? Or is NJS just for street cred bonus points?

If you want to keep it - you may want to consider talking to Andrew Muzi of Yellowjersey in Madison (Jon Kedziera used to work there - learnt how to build frames there - maybe pick up your Jonny too or visit). They do 3rensho restoration.

haha, weird. i live about a block down the street from yellow jersey and am hopefully buying my first cheap fixie from andrew at the end of the month

I suppose if you wanted to get the frame straightened out, you could talk to a framebuilder. Maybe Jonny himself could help you out.

I will *never* (repeat: NEVER) go to yellow jersey again.
I went there once when i was in town for the LOTCR race and the guys were *******s.
I went back about a month ago (beer festival weekend) and the kid at the desk was *such* a jerk that I actually put what I intended to buy on the counter, told him I didn't have to take his attitude, and walked out.

If what I'm finding is true- that they may be the last source of 3rensho decals on earth- I may ask my brother to pick some up. But that's it. Anywhere that treats customers (women, at that) like I've been treated really doesn't deserve to exist.

speaking of which, it seems my brother is interning for Jonny this fall. perhaps he can help. i'll ask. there's actually a wrench at my shop who's out west at framebuilding school right now- an advanced class, and not his first- who i'm waiting on - he returns this weekend. (paul for you dc folks- yup, the bearded guy)

oh, and I mention that the hubs are NJS because my experience with NJS stuff is that it's fairly ballistic. If it's made for strong keirin racers, it's usually not something my weak self can injure.

i'd just like to add that i've had email correspondence with mr. muzi myself and he doesn't seem to be the most patient, friendly person - with the caveat that emails can often be misunderstood, however after reading about chimbly's encounter i'm not all that surprised.

That's weird, my cheaper sansin hub has been pretty much bulletproof.

It's not cursed, just completely ****ed and abused up by someone. Get rid of it if you can. Have you asked the seller for a refund yet? Your call, but it really doesn't seem like it'd be worth keeping. Any good bike shop should be able to tell you how messed up it is, do that if you haven't yet.

3renshos are very cool, but you've got a pretty good chance of finding another in your size, they aren't really all that rare(especially in japan).

Lets hope not that many 3rensho owners abuse their bike like chimbly's seller. no more 3renshos are being made so with every frame destroyed, the other become more valuable and rare.

Chimbly, make sure you keep constant contact with her so she won't think you've let it go.

OK, I believe we have resolution. I paid $30 for mediation through ebay's Square Deal dohickey, and she offered me a $300 refund for decals and repainting. I think this settles all issues. I'm beginning upgrades (nitto stem, some vittoria yellow tires (diamonte, i think) and new seatpost.)

With new paint, i think she'll be a fine, fine bike.

Go with Rubinos! Skiddable for a long long time!

i put a rubino on the front, but the Diamonte's are one step up from those, so i stuck it on the rear.

yup.
the fork is off, but only slightly. i realized after flipping the wheel that part of the problem is that the wheel dish is *way* off. Clearly a building problem. the fork is off by a little, too, but not so much that fixing it would render it useless.

as for the rear triangle, it falls into the "rideable' category now that we've done a little grinding of dropouts. ew.

Cool, glad you can make it work for you without swapping the fork and getting new dropouts. That's one VERY nice thing about steel frames.
