I have my first ever road bike race this weekend, a crit. I'm in the beginner category (there is a cat 5, so I guess "beginner" is below this?). It is a fifteen minute + 1 lap race. Any helpful suggestions....other than "ride fast" :)?

-Relax and enjoy the experience.
-Only do what's comfy.
-Don't wait for the sprint.

Stay in the front 1/3 at all costs, remember to countersteer in the turns, and have fun

Good luck.

It's all position. Stay near the front but try not to break wind. Chill out until near the end. If there's a break, follow if you can. You're probably not going to win on a solo break unless the course is very technical, or you are already riding at a cat 3 level.

It's 15 plus a lap. No tactics go all out from the start. Either you blow up or you al least avoid all the other hacks who show up for what should be a crashfest.

Start singing "crashing I will go, crashing I will go, crashing I will go" At the start. It's fun to mess with others minds. :D

Nah stay out front, draft off some dudes until they blow up, then go all out.

Stay near the front but try not to break wind.

The riders behind you will appreciate that, and it extends the life of the chamois.... ;)
