Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - IRO Crankset question

Hello all,

I'm sure the folks at IRO will respond to my email next week, but until then I hope to have some concerns alleviated...
I just received the IRO crankset from them, (the one on the left)

Has anyone else ordered this crankset? And if so, is it supposed to come with the left arm as well as the drive side? Mine came with no left arm and I am wondering if that was an error on their part, or is that the way they sell it? Although their website mentions nothing like that and calls it a crankset, and there are no left arms to purchase separately.

The write-up does say chain ring only. I don't see where on the site you can order the other side, so I guess it is off to the LBS or your old parts bin to find a matching crank. Shouldn't be hard to find, but, I can see how one might have expected to get the full set.

You should have both - the price is for a crankset with a one chainring which means, yes, you get two arms and one chainring.

Thanks all for the replys, I'm starting to figure it was just a packing error as well. I'll give them a call on Monday and see.
I really don't see why they would sell just the right side and not the left.

Cool, I emailed Tony from IRO and it was a mistake, it happens and I'm cool with that. He was realy quick to take care of it. I heard back real late Sunday night, and the left arm is in the mail today. Great people!

I've been riding a set of these for 5 or 6 months now (got the drivetrain special last February). I love 'em. They're nice and solid, though I have to say I have little experience with anything else. The chainring wasn't completely true, but I've been told that happens to everyone eventually. I like the way they look. The logo is a bit on the big side, but as far as logos go, they're subtle. Plus, they're cheap enough that you can ride the **** out of 'em without worrying while you save up for something better. I've had zero problems with the BB as well.

I have the IRO crankset on on Mark V & bought another for my girlfriends Kogswell. Very good quality & I love it since it is fixed/single speed specific. I find the chainline better due to this. Every chainring is slightly off, but you can correct it by loosening the chainring bolts & moving it slightly. We'll be buying a third IRO crankset for another fixed gear we're building.

yes. Tony is a bike guy and really an asset to the bike community. he's friendly, reliable, honest, and awesome. the fact that we've got this guy to rely on is pretty freakin great.

Bump. I've got a frame on the way and along with the usual scouring of eBay for Record/Dura-Ace/Sugino track cranks, I'm considering the IRO set (with matching BB), since it's definitely one of the cheaper ways to go, and Tony's customer service is legendary.

I was under the impression that matched BBs and cranksets (be they Campy or IRO) were designed to work together to produce a perfect chainline. Am I totally wrong about this, or is this what separates a sub-$100 set from the better stuff? I spent many hours noodling with the spacing on my conversion...I just want everything to work this time.

chainline is more than just the cranks, chainring and BB; theres the hub, cog, spacers, rearwheel frame spacing that all effect it; but as a generalization, yes matched sets will give you a better chainline than mismatched.

So, in your modest opinion(s):

IRO crankset for $79?

or...

ebay/bensbike Sugino RD for $69?
