Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Handlebars for a Road???--HMMM

I am trying to find of better bars to put on my S.S. I am thinking about straight bars with extensions...and taping the whole thing? Or Bullhorns, or maybe something else. Can anyone help me with something....don't really know what to do

What can of handle bars have you used in the past? You should definitely find something comfortable in whatever style you choose.

Scott used to make bars in all kinds of funky shapes. I still see them in the NOS bins on occasion.

On-One makes some interesting bars. They are UK based but have an american distrubuter that they will ship from.

Since we are on the topic of Scott bars, does anyone know why they are not popular anymore? I have a set from my old ride that I am tempted to throw on a new Sirrus that picked up recently.

Scott got out of the US market in the late 90's after they bought Schwinn. Word on the street is they're bringing Scott USA back. Right now all they're offering are risers, but maybe we'll get something like the AT-3 or AT-2 bars back.

My favourite drop style ever were some Scotts that came on a road bike i bought years ago, sold it since too. Maybe I'll hunt some down. Anyway that last position was great on real long rides. I switched around sure but that one was most comfy and if it was just gonna be flat for mile after mile (often the case in the gulf coast ares i rode in)no shifting or braking I could sit on those bar ends all day. Does anyone know if anyone else makes this style off the top of their heads? They don't look too smooth but man they work

i've seen a bike on the street that had the same setup, only it was drop bars with mtb bar ends mounted at the tips. even less smooth looking than the scotts, but inexpensive for sure.

BostonFixed whats the deal on your bike with the centerpulls....no sides? Also I was thinking about taping the whole bar and then the extension? Thoughts on that...

I have straight bars w/ bar ends and the whole thing is taped. I like it because it's sort of like having funky-shaped, angular bullhorns. If you do tape bars & extensions all together, makes ure to plan carefully how you'll do the wrapping. It took me two tries to get by set-up wrapped efficiently without leaving any exposed parts.

I agree with that opinion (though I will be using center-pulls on my two conversions in progress). Sheldon Brown has an article by Jobst Brandt here (http://www.sheldonbrown.com/brandt/brakes.html) that talks about why they are better, as well as detailing other braking systems. A good read.
