BMX - Did you ride/race the skinny tire BMX bike?
Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I'm talking about the 1 1/8inch skinny tire Jr/Mini bmx bikes. Did you ride/race one and when and why did you make the jump to a fat tire BMX bike.

After a while your kid's just going to weigh too much for the smaller components to hold up on the track, that's why you switch.
Darin, there's a very fine line that you're looking for. From what I understand, you want to move him up to a bigger bike before he thrashes the little one, so you can still get some money for it. Ask your son when he'd like to move up, and keep an eye on his form. If he's smooth, he'll get more use out of them and hopefully you won't take a beating when it's time to move up.
