Hey, I am stripping the paint off my bike and realize that I don't have a lot of time and it may take me a few days/weeks, can anyone tell me what I can do to temporarily stop rust on the parts where the paint has already been stripped? I heard the cooking oil will work, any other suggestions? I've already stripped paint in places through the original primer so leaving that on isn't really an option.

Go to Lowe's or Home Depot and get some Metal Etch or Prep and Primer - $5 a bottle. It will eat light surface rust and leave a phosphate coating on the metal which will protect from further rust. Works great.

Try a product called "Rust Converter". This stew chemically converts rust patches to black primer which can then be painted over. I've used it successfully on my Raleigh Sports and my DL-1. My brother also used it to good effect on his restoration cars.
