A little about me in a nutshell...I am turning 50 and used to be quite active up to about 6 years ago. Gave up a lot due to a bad knee and hip. Well this past year I had a hip replacement. My doctor told me to keep up the bike riding therapy started me on (they had me ridng a stationary recumbent). Well when he told me that bit of news I decided it was time to get off the stationary bike and back to an active lifestyle.
I will not even consider getting back on my DF now or any 2-wheeler for that matter so I am looking at Trikes.
I have found one that I have test ridden and I like it. And best of all it fits my budget. I am looking at the EZ-3 AX. I would appreciate anyone's thoughts on this trike. Any and all opinions would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Also consider the ActionBent Tadpole. It's only $1400, considerably less than most other trikes, and got a really good review on BentriderOnline.

I'm new to recumbents myself, but have been a fairly serious cyclist for the past few years... and I'm the same age as you! I hink that the trike you are looking at is a great entry back into cylcing. It looks safe and fun. They claim i't not too hard on the wallet as well. If you decide that you want something faster or different, you can always sell it and upgrade later. Your emphasis on being safe and just getting out there again sound spot on to me. Good luck!

Not a lot of action on this bent board, huh?

Yeah, you'll be able to sell a trike on eBay very fast, and for nearly what you paid for it.

Nothing wrong with either of those trikes, but don't rule out a used catrike pocket or something - better bike for around the same money if you buy secondhand, IMHO.

Thanks all!
I do know I want OSS (just don't feel comfortable with the USS right now) and I have test ridden the few other trikes available in my area which are VERY few. But I always come back to the AX. It feels and handles good when I"ve ridden it. And as mentioned it fits well into my current budget.
Right now I'm basically looking to get myself back in shape after years of dwindling exercise. After almost 2 months of researching, reading, and test riding, these recumbent trikes have really motivated me. My doctor has encouraged the bike riding to build the muscles back up in my leg. I have just been trying to find out if the EZ-3AX is a good starter trike for a newbie like myself. All I know is they are a blast to ride and I wish I had thought about one way before now. But better late than never!

Check out the basic EZ-3 too, if you haven't already. It's a different feel, but also OSS. Both of these trikes are very heavy, but don't let that stop you unless you have to do a lot of hauling of the trike to and from a ride area.

If you like it, then go for it. Someone will always recommend something lighter, more expensive, etc. You're got to be satisfied, no one else!

I wish you luck with your cycling goals! Enjoy!
