I am overhauling a threaded headset for the first time. Everything has been thouroughly cleaned, greased and reassembled. New bearings were used in old retainers. It still sounds pretty rough. I am thinking about replacing the bearings without the retainers, but am unsure of how many to use. Does anyone have some advice on this? Cheers.

Put in as many as you can fit, then remove one. That's the general rule of thumb.

DiegoFrogs... Thanks. I ended up taking two out and it worked well. Cheers.
