Pedal with largest platform?

I am wondering what pedals to get on my wife's new cross bike. She never did well with SPD pedals since they seemed to put too much pressure on her foot and caused problems with numbness there. She is currently using Look style pedals and her road shoes, which work fine, but she would like to move to MTB style shoes with a recessed cleat so she doesn't walk like a penguin when she is off the bike.

So what would be a good pedal choice for her?

Time Atac is what i use, they work well, can be installed with 2 different float settings, and have a large platform.

If you can find 'em, then the first generation of the SPD pedals from the early 90s will work fine. They worked the same way back then as they do now, but had a much bigger platform than today's version. Also, check out Shimano's webpage, I think they make an SPD pedal that is surrounded by a BMX-style platform for downhillers and freeriders.

The Shimano PD-M324, one side has a platform, flip it over and it's an SPD.

if she doesn't plan on doing cross races then I woulds say speedplay zeros or Xs if she does plan on racing then one of the other suggested.

I recently replaced a pair of Shimano SPD's with Crank Bros. Candy pedals. Nice platform, easy in/easy out. What's not to like! Also, FWIW the Candy pedals are the official pedal of the Richard Sachs cyclocross team (at least they were last year). Hope this helps.

The pedal problem is no longer a problem for me, I use spd-r ultegra pedal and I am very pleases. I have ssmall wide feet and could not be happier. Let me know what you find out on your own

What do you all think about the Time Z pedals?

I've been using these on my touring bike for the past 3 years (approx) without any problems, I also find them good as I can just ride down to the shops with trainers(sneakers) on without my feet slipping of the pedal.

I know a lot of people around here use them as an MTB pedal.

Another vote for the mallets if you want the largest platform. They are super easy to get in and out of too. The Candys are great too, if the mallets seem too big or too MTB.
