Mountain Biking - Good price on '04 Specialized?

There is an '04 Specialized RH Pro for sale for $625. It's in very good shape but I'm debating on if it makes more sense to buy the '06 RH Comp w/ disc for $825-850 vs a 2 yr old bike for minimal difference (if you can call $200+ MINIMAL difference)

I'm leaning towards NOT doing it, but am open to input on the subject....

Earlier this year(April or May), I bought a 2004 Specialized Rockhopper Pro Disc for $640 new. I'm not really sure how the '04 and '06 models differ so I can't say which one would be best.

I would say buy the newer one. You got a better chance at it staying together than the older one. And some stuff on the old bike might need to be replaced after a week of riding so...

Well, if you call 2 hundy ($200) minimal I would suggest buying the new bike. Even if you don't, the used bike has an unknown history that could lead you to spend more than the difference. If the used rockhopper was more like half of the price (or less) it would be harder to choose but whoever is selling the bike is asking for 75% of the original 2006 price, what was the purchase price of the '04? He would be getting a great deal at that price.

Try to get the shop down to $750 for the 06. Buy the new one. It will have better resale value when you sell as well.

...I wish...that was my intention last week, go in and explain that I needed to buy a bunch o' gear as well and see if they would deal a little but they just flat out shot me down. They basically said "We don't need to negotiate, someone will buy the bike at that price..." In fact that may be verbatim. I told them I had no intention of paying MSRP on a bike, and they said "ok, if you need anymore help, let me know"

I may go up to Denver and see if there are any LBS's (well, Local to someone else...) that are willing to deal, 'cause Colo Spgs ain't havin' it!
