Introductions - Getting a fresh start in Wisconsin.

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I am a newbie to this board. I am trying to get restarted in riding. About 4 years ago I got hit by a car. Not bad, a twisted up bike, a busted up shoulder, a lot of scrapes, and a shyness to ride.I tried riding after that but just kept on putting off my rides. I thought I would give it another try seeing how much I liked to ride. I have done several metric centries in the past and hope to do a few more if I can get my nerve back,to do a lot of on road riding. I'll do trails but it just isn't the same.
I happened on this site about a week ago and felt I had to give it a try. They say talking about things is the best therapy so here goes.

Welcome Davy, and good for you for wanting to move forward (I can't imagine how difficult it must be). I am in Beloit, and undoubtedly you have discovered LOTS of other Cheeseheads here. Maybe a group situation would be a good place to start? Count me in ... I am not nearly as in shape as most others, but if you're talking the 20-mile Tour De Fort, or some other ride near you (or near me for that matter ... we're not that far apart), count me in. You can reach me privately at mahoolihan@yahoo.com. Welcome!

Welcome back to the sport. I have been assaulted several times while bike riding-nothing serious-but that feeling of vulnerability has stopped me before also. I am in Rockford,Il so you Cheezeheads are like family! Hope you move from the trails to the roads if that is what you want to do and am ready for it.

I'm glad to hear you're getting back on the bike after the accident. Can't imagine how difficult it must be to feel comfortable on the road again. My suggestion would be to one, ride on very low traffic rural roads in your area at first. (For example, today I rode from Beloit to Broadhead, 23 miles, and saw 6 cars the whole time on the secondary roads I was on.) Number two is to hook up with a bike club in Fort Atkinson and go on some club rides. Or talk to the people at the LBS and see if they have rides going out from their store.
Cheers.
