First post here and looking for advice.
My wife and I ride singletrack on the weekends and ride smooth, flat gravel river paths during the week for aerobic excercise. We stopped riding for 8 years and just got back into it a few weeks ago. Now on st, my saddle does not bother me (much and will get better over time) as I'm not fully in it as much, but riding the walking paths/around town my butt is KILLING me after 2 miles. I'd like to be comfortable for doing 10+ mile rides a few nights a week. Obviously, mtb's aren't the perfect set up for this but are there saddles/posts I can swap out for this type of riding during the week after work that will not killer my "tweener" :D ? Given the geometry of an mtb, is this possible? Is it that the original seat is just toast and a new mtb seat will make a world of difference even for road riding? I used to ride this on the road with no problems...maybe I'm just getting old? Any reccomendations?
Next year, we will probably buy new mtb's and convert our old (1994 models) to more of an upright hybrid/cruiser comfort bike for riding the river trails during the week. Until then, I'm looking for a quick, cheap fix between paths and st riding, no matter how weak it looks. Thanks for any advice.
