Bicycle Mechanics - Cleaning 520's

I went on a trail where there was fine red clay everywhere and got it all over. I ran my Shimano 520's and now they are all dirty. How do you reccommend going about cleaning them? just hose them off, grease the threads and lube them w/ some Triflow?

Be specific......some people including myself have no idea what 520's are..... I assume you're talking pedals?

Going on the assumption (uh oh) that the OP is talking about the Shimano PD-M520 pedals, that's a good start. Don't go nuts with the hose, use a light oil (tri flow is decent enough, some like wax lubes for this sort of thing) on the pedal mechanism itself, and grease the spindle threads. Bust out an old toothbrush if you really feel like getting 'em clean. Use common sense and you'll be fine-there's nothing too exciting going on with those pedals.

I use WD and a toothbrush on my 540s. Seems to do a nice job....
