General Cycling Discussion - Specialized Body Geometry saddle.

I'm not promoting the name, as they were the only saddles of quality I saw, but the concept is great.

I bought one Saturday morning for my Gemini, went for a nice long ride in the afternoon, got home and there was absolutely none of the pain that has plagued me for years on conventional saddles. No lower back/coccyx pain, no sore 'plums'.

Very satisifed.

Sad thing is, a saddle is not really something you can take for a test ride, is it?

Finding a comfortable saddle is almost as hard as finding a good spouse.Both can be a pain in the same area:D

I'm sorry, but I have to disagree :eek: I have one on my Specialized Sirrus and hate it completely. I caused so much pain...I guess my body isn't made for a saddle type like it.

Saddles are a very pesronal thing. I have a Selle Italia Trans Am on my road bike and also had one on my cross bike. I find those saddles incredibly comfortable... But I recently put a Fi:zik Pave on my 'cross bike [thanks Marty!] and I'm really liking it. It's a bit narrower than the SI and it doesn't have the love channel, but with the right adjustment, it's amazing. It's a little concave in profile, so when your cheeks are supported, there's not a lot of perineal pressure.

It's also about 1.5 cm shorter than the Selle Italia, which makes it much more convenient for running mounts and dismounts.

I tried the Body Geometry saddle as well, and couldn't ride on it. Fortunately the LBS I got it from lets you bring them back if it's not too long. I've got some other saddles that I thought would be good, but by the time I finished a few long rides and experimented and tweaked positions, it was too late to return them. I'm still looking for THE one!

I have a Body Geometry S-Works saddle and I like mine.:D

I've used Selle Italia Flites and Serfas saddles with no trouble, and I was given the BG saddle by a friend to go with my new bike. I guess my anatomy takes to a racing style seat without any trouble.

I have one on my Sirrus Pro ... seems to work for me also. No numbness or pain to speak of. :)

I have a CODA that I picked up for $9.99 in the upgraded parts bin, It fits my bony a$$ fine, and the price was a steal!

It's actually more comfy than the serfas gel sofa I had before

I love my BG Sport saddle. It's the second one I've had and YES I had to spend some time on it before it was truly comfy but that goes with any good saddle. I'm truly afraid of any saddle that's perfect from the first ride. In my experience it means that it will break down to the point where riding the post would be preferable.

my specialized sport is good.. i like it. my butt gets numb but only after 5 hours of riding.

I think that the problem with it is (well for me anyway) that the middle portion of the seat has two lumps that are up higher. That's the spot that bothers me.

same.. the seat fits my seat bones perfectly but after a few hours im in pain.

After 200 miles on the seat, I got used to it. But I haven't been on it for about a month now. But after reading this thread I decided to ride a little today and I felt the uncomfort after a short mile. I guess the Fuji seat is just a better fit for me.

I'm still looking for the right saddle. The first one I had, that I'd been riding for short distances for a couple of years, I rode 15 miles into town and straight to the bike shop for a new one. That was a Selle Italia that I picked up for £5.

Then I bought a Terry's Belle Gella (sp?). Same numbness, just after much more miles!

I just got a Specialised body geometry on my new trek 1000. That's solved the numbness, but isn't right for my seat bones! Reckon I'll give it some more miles, but suspect I'll be back to the shop before too long.

Ellie, I reckon you must have done so by now, but have you looked at the womens specific design saddles? I saw some by Specialized the other day and they look different, but I can't explain precisely. My wife went the other extreme. She's got one of those huge rounded (shaddup you lot, it's not her ass I'm describing!:)) gel saddles and she put a gel seat cover on top of that. She says it's like sitting in her favourite armchair.

I doubt that anyone can make a universal saddle, good for all butts, but there is a good choice available. Out there, somewhere, with your name on it...:D

I just swept aside my max flite and bought a Body Geometry saddle. I'll give it a couple of days and see how it goes. Hopefully I'll be free of numbness soon.

Yeah, the Terry was women specific, as is the version of the Specialised Body Geometry I've got.

I'll just have to try some more!

I tried lots of them and the ones that have the hole in them hurt more than any others I tried. I used to have a gel seat, but when I got my new Mesa GSX, I kept the saddle that was on it. It looked hard and small, but it works better than the gel seats. I was amazed.

Believe it or not, I still don't have padded bike shorts. I am getting some this week, but I have been riding for years and just could not see the point of spending $50+ dollars for them. I wear regular bike shorts with no padding. I am hoping I will notice a huge difference. Maybe I will love my seat even more!!!

First time on the BG today and no numbness. It was awfully nice to be without that lack of feeling!!

i tried the Body Geometry saddles but found that they weren't very comfortable. i also didn't like how much they weighed and how much they costed...seem quite expensive!

i guess i'm still young and want to take light weight (i'm using a Flite Ti) over comfort...:beer:
