Has anybody tried using DOW Corning 33 to lubricate their chain? I have some sitting around and wondered if it would work. For those who dont know, its a popular paintball lube also known as Shocker Lube and a few other things I can't think of right now. Thanks all, here's to my first post

Stv's Chain Lube Axiom

"

Using that axiom, I have achieved a value of -.75. But there is no list of values, so I'm not sure if that's good or not.

Part of the problem is that some of these values are fairly subjective - I'm not sure what the real value of my bike would be (paid, resale, insured, actual: who knows!)

Chain lube - what a controversial topic!

I postulate that it really doesn't matter what you lube your chain with - so long as it's not saltwater or a similar crazy thing. You see, the root of the problem is not the lube, it's the chain and sprocket. This drive arrangement is just too vulnerable to the elements.

So, lube away with whatever makes you feel good. The choice of lube - within reason - doesn't make much difference. Frequency of cleaning / lubing have way more impact on chain and sprocket life than the type of lube.
