Books, Movies, Music & Entertainment - song suggestions for presentation

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

In October, I am giving a presentation to a group of Occupational Therapists about my work as a Driver Rehabilitation Specialist. In short, my job is to evaluate fitness for driving with individuals that have suffered disease or disability that may interfere with their ability to operate a motor vehicle. It is a fun and exciting job, and I'd like the presentation to be just as exciting (pehaps not as dangerous as we will not be riding around with people with dementia like I do on a daily basis! ;) ). SO....I thought I'd toss in blips of car-related songs throughout the talk...you know, like: Mustang Sally, or that one from the Doors (keep your eyes on the road yer hands on the wheel)...for example. What do y'all think? any ideas?
thanks!

if you are using a slideshow presentation, you could use random picture of cars in insane crash positions (wedged lengthways between buildings or trees) or even short videos?

great idea! I will incorporate that....add the sizzle to the substance. I only have 90 minutes and that, amazingly, goes pretty fast, so I'll have to be careful with my time. Thanks!
Here are some ideas off the top of my head. Since you're just using snippets rather than whole songs, you can avoid the bits that might get you fired (i.e., some of the more objectionable lyrics of Little Red Corvette)
Cars - Gary Numan
Little Red Corvette - Prince
Pink Cadillac - Aretha
Thunder Road - Bruce
Mercedes Boy - Pebbles
Fire - Pointer Sisters / Springsteen
Runnin' on Empty - Jackson Browne
Highway Star - Deep Purple
Little Deuce Coupe - Beach Boys
Hot Rod Lincoln - Charlie Ryan (or Asleep at the Wheel's cover)
Route 66 - Nat "King" Cole
Meatloaf - Paradise by the Dashboard Light
Beatles - Drive My Car
Tracy Chapman - Fast Car
Hope that sparks some ideas.

Copperhead Road, by Steve Earle, has some choice auto-centric lyrics, but I'm not sure it would fit with your presentation. Megadeth's 502 might work, as well. Here's a nifty list(for no reason):
If I Had A Car - Electric Boys
Drive Me Home - The Evinrudes
On The Road Again - Willie Nelson
Dragula - Rob Zombie
I Wasn't Meant To Feel This/Asleep At The Wheel - Suicidal Tendencies
Getaway Car - Audioslave
Car Wash - Rose Royce
Car Thief - Beastie Boys
One Piece At A Time - Johnny Cash
Only other one that hasn't been named that I can think of is Bad Habit - Offspring, and that might get you in trouble without some editing....

Liz,
Great idea! I did a similar thing for a uni assignment on transport geography studying the development of transport systems and styles over time through the medium of music. I used Telegraph Road by Dire Straits throughout the presentation as the linking song as it really hit on the key theme of the presentation, but I don't know if it will fit with yours or not (I love Dire Straits - great music). Anyhoo, here are some others that may help:
Canned Heat - On The Road Again
The Beatles - Drive My Car
J. Geils Band - Hard Drivin Man
The Clash - Brand New Cadillac
Shannon Noll - Drive (you may not have heard this one - a relatively recent Aussie one)
Good luck, let us know how it goes (and what songs you use!).

OK, so I am a dork! I had this great idea to infuse my presentation with snippets of songs about driving and got LOTS of great ideas and was so very excited to put it all together, only to find out in the 11th hour that I do not know how to do that!!! put song snippets in Power Point, that is....
so, thanks again for your great ideas, and one of these days, i'll figure out how to mess with it; hopefully before my next presentation... the presentation on Sunday went well without it (must be my charming personality!), but it would have been fun with the tunes!
