3 wheel, or 3-speed?

I am assuming that it is a three-speed with a Sturmey-Archer hub. The manufacture date of the hub will be stamped on the hub. You can assume that the bike was made pretty close to that year.

I believe Robin Hood was made by Raleigh. Robing Hood was made in Nottingham, England. Nottingham must have been quite the bicycle hub back it the day because Hercules was made there too. Can you imagine being in Nottingham, England back in the bicycle heyday with all those townspeople being employed by thriving bicycle manufacturing companies. It must have been grand.

In the '70s I had a Raleigh and my wifle had a Robin Hood. They appeared to be identicle so I always thought that Robin Hood was made by Raleigh. Thanks for confriming in Mike.

Yes, Raleigh bought up many of the local companies & Robin Hood was one of them.

Sheldon Brown says they were a lower priced Raleigh, biggest differences I see are no Raleigh fork, heavy wire struts for the fender stays, no pump pegs. I have put 6700 miles on mine in 5 years, ride and
enjoy it.

With a bit of imagination, the whole "English Racer" three speed, Robin Hood from Nottingham, England is kinda romantic. I always floated on a great deal of fantasy grandure when I rode my old Robin Hood three-speed.

I actually had a pair of them - one a men's Robin Hood and the matchine female version. I ended up giving them to a new imigrant couple who rode them quite a lot.

I have a photo of the bikes somewhere. I will post it here if I can find them soon.

So, is this three-wheeler a utilitarian kind of three speed (english roadster, kind of) or is it one of the racing models with derailleurs and skinny wheels? Can you post some pics? Three wheelers can be just the cat's pajamas...

Robin Hood cycles were the lower end of the scale made by Raleigh Cycles around 1950. Nothing wonderful buta good cheap machine for all that. Other "titles" made by Raleigh were Rudge, Humber, and a couple of others which I cannot call to mind David Chapman-Hicks Southend Wheelers UK
